We went to American Camp first then English. Its a lovely spot on the bay. The interpreters were very knowledgeable. My kids and I loved seeing the Osprey nest from the telescope.

There's not much for history lovers to see on San Juan Island, but there are the remnants of the British and American military camps that once jointly occupied the island. The American camp of pretty desolate and reflects well its dismal history. The English Camp is much prettier and a nice place to see.

The views were awesome, easy walk to Redoubt Point to get 360 degree views. The actual camp was ok, cute to read about.

We had already visited the American Camp earlier in the day, so skipped the ranger talk and video. Gardens are well maintained and the interpretive center has period dressed docents, etc. Happened upon lowering the flag ceremony in late afternoon which was very informative and fun.

Not a history buff but we stopped here on our way around the island. Never heard of this pig disagreement. Very interesting.
The hike to Mount Young was nice. The view from the top is worth the climb.
