“Wonderful get away weekend”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

My husband and I spent 2 nights here in the Orcas Suite, and enjoyed every minute.

We were able to walk on from the ferry, and the B&B is a short walk, just a couple of blocks and one hill from the ferry.

We were greeted with a cheery welcome, and picked up our keys and were in our room within 5 minutes - no fuss and bother!

Prior to our arrival, I had asked if they would be able to accommodate our gluten free diet during breakfasts. I was assured that this would not be an issue - and it wasn't. Not only were all of our breakfasts gluten free, but delicious gluten free cookies appeared each afternoon as well. I should also add, this was gluten free done right - no tasteless mushy or stale substitutes, but flavorful and well textured options.

Within our suite, we had a kitchenette with a mini fridge/freezer, toaster, microwave and all the fixings for tea, coffee and cocoa. Robes and slippers were provided for use, and wonderful soaps, lotions and other toiletries were also available. It felt like every detail was taken care of.

The guest information book had a wealth of information on island activities and places to eat. The main house, Tucker House, had a VHS lending library, as well as books and games.

We found the bed with feather mattress top to be quite comfortable, and enjoyed our little hot tub for two on our private balcony.

Our only regret was that we had to leave! We'll be back!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms will have better views.

Green Features: This is a green hotel - they encourage recycling, reusing towels, and provide large containers of toiletries that are used by many guests, instead of the single use small containers that are then thrown away.

We ended up in Friday Harbor on a whim with no accommodations but an overnight bag packed. Since it is before the busy season, we were lucky enough to get a room - and lucked out more with a "same day" reservation discount. We ended up in the Orcas Suite.

It was ideal for an overnight getaway. We used the private hot tub on the balcony - perfect for two with a lovely view! (We could have used more towels as only 2 were provided so they were still damp for our showers in the morning.)

The suite was well appointed with milk and orange juice in the fridge, a selection of complimentary snacks plus coffee, tea and hot chocolate - plus fresh baked cookies. We went out for dinner and brought back dessert to enjoy in our room.

Breakfast was delivered right on time - a tasty breakfast sandwich with granola and fruit. We could have also asked for yogurt but we passed.

Ideal location for walking around town and to the ferry. Staff was accessible and friendly. "Homey" feeling to check in and check out plus we felt welcomed to the main house even though we were staying in the adjoining building. WiFi is unreliable in the Orcas Suite. The gardens were well tended. It felt like spring!

We are pleased that you enjoyed your serendipitous stay at the Harrison House. I wanted to share some good news about our w-fi. We just added a 3rd 10MB Internet line that is dedicated to the Harrison House. We have also added a new router to ensure that the signal will be strong throughout the property. Our guests are requiring more and more bandwidth during their stay and we are looking into the technical feasibility of getting broadband service so we can stay ahead of our guests' media needs. Looking forward to your return visit. Fondly, Anna Maria

We stayed in the Roche Harbor "cottage" and just for clarification, while this may at some point have been part of a cottage it is not a "cottage" now. It is a nice suite with a suite of the same size above it and a cafe below. So it is the middle floor. How they term that a "cottage" I don't know.

It was a nicely appointed suite, but the website write up makes it sounds like a cottage sitting all on its own away from everything else. It is not. If you look at the property map you'll see that this is a property about the size of a city block and they have about 17 rooms/suites on the property with about six buildings There is not much privacy as the buildings are stacked pretty close together and the deck with the hot tub in the Roche Harbor room looks directly onto a parking lot (there is a screen, but I would not want to use the tub in the daytime).

Our suite was very comfortable. The kitchen is large and has everything you'd need, the living room is nice (although there were some issues with the gas fireplace which apparently was new and not the "remote controlled" fireplace advertised). They also had a DVD-only player, but while there were a lot of old VHS tapes in the lobby for guests to use there were only three DVDs, one of which was for kids. If we'd known we would have brought a DVD from home.
The bed was very comfortable and although the bathroom is tiny with hardly room to put your toiletries the shower was fantastic! Big enough for two with plenty of hot water (not easy to find in many accommodations) and a great shower head.

Breakfast is served in your room which is a nice touch. The breakfasts were good, but not up to the level of some of the B & Bs we've stayed in.

My rating is between a three and a four, but I gave this a four as they have some very nice touches and do seem to want to do a good job.

Jan,

HI! Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to write about your stay. The Roche Harbor Cottage is a vintage 1930 cottage that was moved to the Harrison House Suites from Roche Harbor Resort, its namesake. So in deference to its historical roots, we call it the Roche Harbor Cottage. It sits above our Garden Cafe with its own private entrance and is appointed with all the amenities of the original cottage, with a modern facelift.

The new fireplace was installed last week and has an internal thermostat control. We felt that was a huge improvement over the old one, while remote controlled, was either on or off. We are very excited about the kitchen renovation that we are starting next month. We will reconfigure the galley kitchen and install granite countertops to give the Roche Harbor Cottage a more open feel. We can't wait for you to come back to the Tucker House Inn and see the changes we are making.

Thank you again for your comments and we look forward to your return visit.

Best,

Anna Maria

My wife and I, along with our dog Gracie stayed there on a Friday night. The staff was wonderful and had special treats for Gracie. We were in the Roche Harbor Cottage and it was very comfortable. The breakfast was awesome and we will be coming back!

Margot and I had a great stay at the Roche Harbor Cottage at the Harrison House Suites. We also had our best friend, Tessa the Chocolate Lab with us. The staff was great and treated us all very well. Excellent breakfasts with great homemade stuff! Very relaxing.

Spent one night for a romantic getaway weekend. Flew in using the Kenmore Air seaplane with offered fantastic view and a one of kind experience. Inn was in a short few blocks of a walking distance of the seaplane dock and many shops/restaurants. Very nice accommodations.
