This is an ugly split level home OUTSIDE of town that they've tried (unsuccessfully) to beautify. The owners are friendly, but not engaging enough to be in the hospitality industry.

After eight hours of travel we arrived to find they had no room for us as they sold it to someone else. Man was very rude and offered no
sympathy for our situation. With only a few rooms how could this happen. I received a confirmation from Expedia and Hillside sold it on their own.

We just celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary at this beautiful Bed & Breakfast. The food was delicious, the gardens amazing, and the owner's hospitality outstanding!
We would definitely recommend this B&B to others and hopefully one day we'll be able to return! There were some nice "extras" provided too (heaters in each bedroom, guest refrigerator with ice, drinks and snacks always available, and we can't forget those delicious homemade chocolate chip cookies!) We certainly enjoyed them and did not go away hungry!

We definitely agreed with the review below. For our anniversary, my husband and I stayed at the, what I now call the "Lightside House". There was no comparison to the other Bed & Breakfasts we have stayed. The Parisian room was ok, however, the goose feathered down mattress that was indicated on the website was not the mattress we slept on. In the bathroom was a long letter requesting that guests be conservative with the water usage. We thought this was an eco-friendly effort to conserve water on the small island, until we went upstairs the next morning for breakfast and realized the owner was extremely concerned about his profit margin. Expecting a quality and standard sized breakfast, we were served delicious and unique pancakes with a grocery bought turkey sausage and an orange slice. This was all great, but in our opinion was missing key breakfast elements- eggs, breakfast meat, potato item, and fresh fruit with the "choice" of pancakes, waffles, etc. When my husband asked if there were eggs to order, they replied eggs are only served every other day. This disappointing breakfast set a bitter tone for the rest of our stay on the island. We did enjoy the pancakes, but the best aspect of our stay was the recommendation to eat at Downriggers, where we enjoyed a real and delicious breakfast with eggs and potatoes.

Website is impressive but deceptive. Though home & rooms are quite nice, w/ superb bedding & decor, it barely has a "view" of the sound as the home page depicts. Both my wife & I found host Greg a bit sour & unfriendly, whereas wife Naoni was quite gracious & accommodating. The most disappointing aspect of our stay however, was the breakfast. When I pay $170 per night for a B & B (& we've stayed at many), I expect something memorable - certainly a morning feast that had some earlier preparation. We were served pancakes & ham. No "egg-based entree", "bisquits", or "homemade granola" as indicated on the website. The so called fresh fruit was thin slices of an orange. I would say in my opinion, that this is not a very good lodging value.

We spent one night at the Hillside House B&B while on San Juan Island. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters which had a nautical theme. The bed was very comfortable.

Greg and Naoni were great hosts. Naoni gave us an overview of all the activities on the island that weekend and Greg made the awesome lavender pecan pancakes.

We only spent one night at the Hillside House and therefore this review is based on limited observation.

This is an attractive and well managed B&B. Our room (the Captain's Room) was nicely decorated and comfortable. We had a limited view of the harbor from our window. The common areas are similary nicely decorated and comfortable. The owners are friendly and helpful. The breakfast is nice but relatively basic, scrambled eggs, biscuits, gravy, fruit, juice, a freshly baked cinnamon coffee cake, etc.

The deck off the common area has a limited view of the harbor since the Hillside House is probably a mile from the harbor. Which leads to the only negative comment I have which is that, if you don't have a car, it is a pretty good walk from the ferry terminal. Most of the walk is not particularly scenic. We had backpacks so it wasn't too big of a deal but I wouldn't recommend it with suitcases. Taxis are available but you are still somewhat stranded when you want to go out during the day or to dinner at night.

I'm not sure if the Hillside House is a good value or not. I paid almost $200 for our room which is high for a B&B in the shoulder season. However, it is a nice property and I think all the rooms were rented the night we were there.
