“The El Rey Inn came to our rescue!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2011

After a bad experience at a five star hotel on the outskirts of Santa Fe, our family reunion needed to move to a new hotel in a hurry. My dad had fond memories of the El Rey Inn from 20 years ago. They found unique and suitable rooms for all four of the couples in our party. The service was excellent, the breakfast was tasty, the owners and staff very friendly. I highly recommend the El Rey Inn.

Been to Santa Fe several times and this was my favorite place to stay outside of the Plaza. Rooms nice and reasonable price. However, we booked late and received a room right next to the laundry. The staff woke us up each day around 7:00 a.m. Other than that, the breakfast was wonderful, the room nice and the grounds were beautiful.

Room Tip: The great thing about this hotel is that there are many different types of rooms. Have a conversati...

We have been staying at the El Rey since 1985 and go at least every 2 years. It is the only place we will stay in Santa Fe, as it is a beautiful property and very well-priced. The staff is always friendly and accommodating and the rooms are clean and nicely appointed. I can't think of one complaint I have had in all the years we have stayed here! They provide a free breakfast, but we usually eat at the Pantry next door, as we tend to sleep late. I know there are more luxurious places to stay downtown in the heart of Santa Fe, but for the money you can't beat the El Rey, and I kind of enjoy being out away from the hubbub in the evening. Their beautifully-landscaped grounds are nice for relaxing in the evening and the hot tub is nice, too. Just an overall great place!

Found out about this hotel because it was voted a Top 50 hotel for under $150 by Sunset magazine. Very charming, beautiful grounds, friendly staff, convenient location. The room and bathroom was a very comfortable size for 2 people. I do have to say there was a lack of "walk-in appeal": the bedspread design, some furniture and most of the artwork looked completely out of place. It might seem picky to mention this, but the lobby decor is so very charming we expected the rooms to be the same. Plus, it was our first visit to Santa Fe. We were in the back of the property so street noise wasn't an issue at all. The breakfast has a nice variety with plenty of tables. It's close to some very good restaurants and a short drive to the historic plaza. Stayed for 4 nights and I'd consider staying here again.

My husband & I stayed here on our 2nd honeymoon. The inn is in a weird part of town yet on a main road not too far from downtown. This place is on the old Route 66 with a lot of history. It was quiet, romantic, and has beautiful landscaping. The staff was so friendly. The breakfast was yummy...not your typical continental breakfast. My favorite part was our room! We had originally booked a room online with a double bed. I wanted a kingsize bed for this special occasion. I called the hotel itself later, and when I told them it was our anniversary the lady reserved us a room with kingsize bed and a patio for an even better price than we got online!! When we checked in our room we found it had a fireplace! (My husband's favorite part of the room.) The decor in room was funky and didn't really match but I liked it...a lot! This place was my favorite part of our stay in Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Call the Inn itself. Don't book online! if you want a romantic room, try to book room 45-49. The...

Pleasantly surprised with the old world charm. Lodgings were a respite from the hectic Cerrillos Road; staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful; rooms are spacious and, if you are selective, extremely quiet. Consider this a "Find!" Grounds and gardens are well maintained. As many others point out, the price is great, especially with their passport of "stay 5 nights, get the 6th night free." These do not need to be consecutive. While it is not within walking distance, it is within approximately 3 miles of most destinations. We try to travel on "the road less traveled" and try to find accommodations that are unique and a value. The El Rey is definitely in this category and we will return.

We were hesitant to stay at a Motor Lodge on a busy road. It didn't sound like our idea of a charming Santa Fe vacation. As it turned out we had a hard time finding an affordable room in the center of town and wound up staying here for a night. We were pleasantly surprised and loved the place. It is motor lodge but a good portion of it is set way back from the road and is very quiet. The grounds and buildings are all immaculate. The road, Cerillos, wasn't as busy as we thought it would be. The grounds are tastefully decorated with Spanish tiles, flowers and plants throughout. Very colorful. There is a nice outdoor pool and an outdoor hot tub that we enjoyed after a day of traveling. They have a nice twist on the included continental breakfast. They serve warm tortillas w/ cheese and green chili sauce.

We took the advice of some of the other folks on Trip Advisor and booked a room in the back. It was a very pleasant stay and at 1/2 or 1/3 the price of many other places in town it is a bargain. The rooms themselves are fine. Not overly fancy They are very clean and all that you would expect. The front desk was very pleasant and helpful as well. The only drawback is that El Rey is not within walking distance to the downtown area that most tourist will want to visit. It is a 10 minute drive. it is close to Jackalope though ;-)

We would definitely stay here again.
