“Great little motel with atmosphere”
Reviewed 24 February 2010

This motel has been in Santa Fe for many years and they have done an excellent job of keeping it updated while still retaining the charm of an older motel. Lovely grounds and wonderful staff.
We have stayed there separately and together many times over the years and always have a wonderful stay. I highly recommend El Rey.

We came upon this adorable vintage motor court accidentally. Rolled into Santa Fe late one evening and did not know where to find a hotel. After wondering a bit, found the El Rey. Because it looks like an upscale renovated boutique hotel, i went in to inquire about rates. I was very pleased to find they are no more than the franchise hotels. The room was well appointed traditional Santa Fe style, the staff was very sweet and helpful, and the breakfast includes some wonderful health conscious additions. I would definitely stay at the El Rey if i were back in the Santa Fe area!

My partner and I travel to Santa Fe about once a year and always stay at the El Rey Inn. We always get a different room and have never been disappointed. This year, we made it a family vacation, bringing my sister-in-law and her two kids (15 and 9). We got a 2 bedroom suite with a living room, dining room, wood burning stove and full kitchen. It was perfect! The breakfast is always wonderful, too - a very simple selection of breads/bagels, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc. but enough to get us through a full morning of skiing! The staff has always been very helpful - even showing us other rooms so we could make our choice for next year! My partner travels a lot professionally and gets tired of all the cookie-cutter chain places. We look forward to our trip to the El Rey and Santa Fe every year!

Each room here is slightly different, which makes for a unique hotel. We only stayed one night but it was great. We had room 32, with two queen size beds and a wood burning fireplace. The decor was cheeky vintage, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The bathroom was huge and great for a family. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The breakfast was great as well, with toast, boiled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, and the ability to make breakfast tortillas. The staff was friendly and helpful. We'd stay here again the next time we're in town, hopefully for more nights!

Friends suggested this hotel for the value and atmosphere both which we found to be
great! The breakfast was fabulous and included in the room price. I would definitely stay again! The soak in the hot tub was a nice way to end the day.

I read about El Rey Inn in the New York Times. It was also written up in Oprah magazine. The grounds are cute, but our room was dark and small. To walk between the foot of the bed and the dresser was difficult. There may have been a foot of space. My husband and I could not have walked through together. The continental breakfast was OK, no bagels or pastry. You had to ask the breakfast helper for a bowl of fruit. They refilled the coffee for you, but there was no cream at the table so you had to get up and go to where the coffee was in order to get some. We stayed only one night and transferred to the Quality Inn down the road. The room was half the price;it was much larger and brighter. I also thought that part of town was nicer even though it was less than a mile away. I like nice motels, but El Rey did not meet my expectations. The clerk at the desk was very nice.

Stayed at the El Rey on september 8th for 5 nights and enjoyed every minute of it.
We stayed in room number 38 it had a queen bed with a fully equiped kitchen
and a private little patio off the kitchen, room was very nicely decorated and very clean.
The garden and landscaping around the hotel was very very nice and created a peaceful
setting to walk around and enjoy all the nice lanscaping.
The swimming pool and hot tubs were wonderful and very clean.
The breakfast was very good they had coffee, juice, muffins, toast ,oatmeal and cold
cereal along with fresh fruit.
The breakfast rooms were small and a little cramped with the tables inside but there
was always tables outside in garden areas which were very nice on a wonderful Santa Fe morning.
Overall I really enjoyed this motel and would stay here again.
