“Great price!”
Reviewed 15 September 2011

We don't gamble but were looking for a reasonably priced hotel and didn't mind being a bit out of town. We chose the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino and stayed twice. We paid under $100 for a very large room in a casita, and that included complementary breakfast in the main building. The casino, if you are so inclined, is an easy walk across the parking lot. Definitely recommend!

Room Tip: Choose a room not in the main casino building, overlooking the golf course, for a great rate.

We've always talked about taking a road trip to Santa Fe and Taos and finally decided to do it for our 38th Anniversary. The staff was nice and extremely helpful. The room was very comfortable and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable and a nice variety of pillows. The large shower was great - especially since my husband is 6'9" and hotel showers are usually a challenge for him. We also enjoyed our celebration dinner at the Red Sage Restaurant - YUM!

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room with a balcony - good views!

I was booked next door at the Homewood Suites for 3 nights during Santa Fe Indian Market in August. When I arrived the desk clerk told me that they only had me for two nights. If you have every been to Market you know how tough it is to get a room in Santa Fe. We were crushed. I called this hotel and they could not have been more helpful. I am not a gambler but you don't need to be to enjoy this hotel. My best recommendation is always whether I would stay again. Oh yea much better than Homewood Suites next door. I'll be back next year.

We arrived and went to check in. We were with friends who made the reservations and got us a great rate.

Check in went smoothly-WE THOUGHT

Our room was large and well appointed. There was an odor in the closet which my wife thought smelled like dirty diapers. We asked that housekeeping clean the carpet but we think all they did was spray some deodorizer, because the smell came back.

Overall the hotel room and casino were nice.

Bar had decent prices but we did not eat at the hotel itself.

Halfway through our six day stay we were told that we would have to leave. WHY, the person who checked us in entered we would be leaving on the 3rd versus the 6th. We went to the front desk manager, hotel manager and casino guest services. They all agreed that the clerk made a mistake but they were sold out and were unwilling to accommodate us even though we were already there.

Finally they said we could call back in the morning to see if anyone had canceled on a day-to-day basis. We did not think that was realistic so we made reservations at another hotel in Santa Fe. Not easy on a holiday weekend.

The next day we were told that they had rooms for us at a higher rate for both days. But due to their unwillingness to deal with us initially on the issue and we had made reservations we decided to leave the hotel.

I will not return to this hotel. Customer service was lacking as they should have accommodated us due to their mistake.

OH Well I hope this is not indicative of the Hilton Brand.

We stayed here on our way home from the Chile Festival in Hatch, NM. The room was georgeous and the balcony enjoyable. My husband wanted to get some things from the pro shop and was escorted to the shop in a complimentary golf cart. The casino was nice although you can smoke on the casino floor you can't have alcohol there (New Mexico state law). There are a couple of bars though so you can take a break and have a drink.

Would certainly stay here again.

For my birthday, we drove up to the Ojo Caliente hot springs from ABQ (admission is free on your birthday). As a tip, the springs there are incredible, the most amazing I've ever seen. Highly recommended. We didn't want to stay the night in Santa Fe, because of parking, crowds, ect. So we found the Hilton at Buffalo Thunder. I really didn't expect much because the hotels and casinos on reservations are usually okay, but nothing special. But this place was special! The hotel lobby is beautiful! The place has really nice restaurants, shops, a beautiful pool (closed for renovations when we were there). Gambling if you want it. And the views from our room was amazing, so beautiful. And they had Peter Thomas Roth bath products, a huge plus for me. Most rooms have balconies, but not all, so ask about that when you book. On the way home we stopped at Harry's Roadhouse for lunch on the outskirts of Santa Fe and we're again pleased. Seriously, I'll drive back to Santa Fe just to go there.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade. Sometimes they're available. Ask about balconies.
