I've been returning to the Hacienda Nicholas and La Madeleine for 12 years. Great food, service and location. Carolyn, the innkeeper directed me to a ski shop that was closing and what a find that was! Looking forward to this year's Indian Market...Thanks for everything.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice...by now, we've stayed in them all. But I've never stayed in the one that...

Thank you so very much for your kind comments, and for your continued patronage over the past 12 years. It is heartwarming to hear that you have always enjoyed our breakfasts, service and location, a the helpful tips you have received. It was sad that the small, local ski shop closed, but great that you were able to take advantage of their tremendous going-out-business sale. We look forward to seeing you again this summer during the excitement of Indian Market.

Hacienda Nicholas perfectly met my definition of a B&B: comfortable accommodations with special touches, a delicious unique breakfast and space to feel at home yet have some privacy. Here's to a job well done.

We stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The Inn is conveniently located to the Plaza and that meant we could walk almost everywhere. We were especially pleased with the rooms we stayed in and the delicious breakfasts. If one of us didn't want to eat what had been prepared, all we had to do is ask for something else, and that's what we got; eggs, toast, cereal, etc. The staff was also so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend any of our friends to stay here and will stay here again when we go back to Santa Fe. Great choice!

We thoroughly enjoyed having your group at Hacienda Nicholas recently and appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your visit. As you experienced, when a guest is not able to eat the main hot dish of the day, or would prefer something other than what we are serving, we are always happy to make eggs to go along with the bacon, toast and other breakfast buffet choices. Hopefully you will all be able to come back to the inn for more fun in Santa Fe, and more evenings of card games for high stakes of $15 in total winnings.

My husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary in The Hemlock Room. We loved it! The setting was beautiful, the location was perfect, the staff was welcoming and knowledgeable, and the breakfast was delicious! If ever in Santa Fe again, we would definitely revisit! We will also highly recommend these accommodations to our friends! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in June, 2013. We booked the Wisteria Room. While some people used to having a lot of living space may find this room a bit small, we found it to be ideal. It has a very comfortable bed, very good bathroom, two leather-covered sitting chairs for reading or watching television, and it is a very quiet room, as well. The inn's location is also a plus. We were able to easily walk to the main Plaza area in about 10 - 15 minutes. There are galleries and restaurants all around the Inn, including the delectable Santa Cafe. While the Inn does have spa services of offer, we did not have time to try them. But the spa looked very inviting. But what especially made our visit to this inn so memorable was the owner - operator, Carolyn. She was there every morning helping with breakfast. She was most pleasant and helpful. Even after we left the Inn, she was helpful as we had left an item in our room and she saw to it personally that it was cleaned and mailed back to us. Thanks for everything. When we return to Santa Fe, we will once again book a room and the Hacienda Nicholas.

Room Tip: THe smaller rooms in the main house are very good value. Since we don't spend much time in our...

Green Features: The inn lists many environmentally friendly practices from the way they water their gardens to way their appliances are energy efficient. Wastes are recycled and toilets are also water efficient. Another reason we booked at the Hacienda Nicholas are these environmentally friendly practices.

What a wonderful review you have written! Thank you so very much for taking the time to write such a glowing testimony. I am delighted that you found the room to have all you needed, despite it being one of our smaller 'value' rooms. Guests love that we are just 3 blocks from the Plaza and Canyon Road, and that all the shops, galleries and restaurants of Santa Fe are within easy walking distance. It was truly our pleasure to have you and your wife as our guests. We look forward to your future visit.

Overall we had a wonderful stay. The location if wonderful, our room (the Nicholas suite) was fantastic, the courtyard was beautiful. We would stay again.

My one complaint is I didn't love the food. It was just fine, just not what I've come to expect at most B&Bs. I'd say this is more of a boutique hotel feel rather than a B&B. The food was often cooked the night before and then just reheated in the morning. They also weren't able to accommodate my husband's dairy allergy each day which isn't a deal breaker, we learn to live with it - just most B&Bs are happy to fry an egg for you and they weren't able to. So in summary, go for the beautiful inn and great location, not the breakfasts.

Thank you so very much for your review of Hacienda Nicholas. I am happy to learn that you enjoyed your stay overall, and hope to clarify the breakfast issues. While we prepare some of the breakfasts the day before, they are all baked/cooked fresh that day. For example, a frittata will be put together on a Tuesday, but not cooked until Wednesday morning just before it is served. The blue corn waffle batter will be made on Sunday, and then cooked to order on Monday.

As for the cooking of eggs when the main dish will not work, we always always always do this for people. Some people do not care for chile, so even when it is an egg dish, we will scramble or fry eggs upon request. If it is a waffle or french toast day, we will always do eggs for those who are not able/ or choose not to eat that sort of breakfast. Please do let me know who may have told you that we could not do this. It has been our policy for the past 25 years, ever since we opened, to accommodate in this manner.

Thank you so very much for writing so that we might clarify this issue.

A very clean, welcoming and comfortable b and b in a peaceful, convenient and authentic location that felt like home. Service was uniformly excellent. Carolyn and her staff were cheerful and always accommodating. Each morning, Carolyn offered us knowledgeable suggestions, maps and detailed itineraries to help us fully enjoy an area she clearly loves. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts, birding and chatting with other guests each morning from the patio with its lovely garden. At the end of the day, we were happy to come back to tasty snacks in the afternoon. We would be glad to return to Hacienda Nicholas.

Room Tip: The Sage Room is small but comfortable.

Thank you very much for writing of your recent visit to Hacienda Nicholas. This is a great time of year to enjoy leisurely breakfasts on the patio, with the gardens in full bloom, and birds singing in the trees. Many a friendship has been made on that patio over breakfast or during the evening Social Hour. I am happy to know that my suggestions, along with those of the staff, were so appreciated. Most first-time visitors to Santa Fe are unaware of just how much there is to see and do in and around town, so we are always happy to give suggestions and directions. We certainly hope to see you again in the future. Please know that the Sage is our smallest room (and priced accordingly). It is great for guests who don't intend to spend a lot of time in the room and would rather save their dollars for dining and activities. Guests seeking a more spacious room will want to read the room descriptions and speak with our reservations desk so we can find you the perfect room for your needs and budget. Thank you again Tara, for such a lovely review.
