“Gets your head around Santa Fe & State History”
Review of Loretto Line

We're fairly new to New Mexico. When friends and family visit, Santa Fe is a destination just about everyone wants to hit. We didn't know much about the city or state so after a few lousy visits, we decided to try this tour so we could share the city with future visitors. We'll just be sending future visitors here first thing! Then they can decide what they are interested in seeing further. I was really impressed with the history lessons as well as the tour itself. Very thorough and interesting.

We decided to take the Loretto Line tram tour from the downtown historic district in Santa Fe, NM. There was a morning and afternoon tour which leaves in front of La Fonda Hotel on the plaza. There is no advance purchase necessary and the tickets are $15 per person. This is well worth the price, as you get approx. one hour and 45 minutes of a tour guide giving you lots of history about the area and things to see and do. Note that this tour does not make stops to get on and off, but merely slowly travels and makes briefs stops (no one gets off the tram - guide makes these short stops to give you history and information) around three main areas: The historic district, pointing out where various things are located that you may want to walk and see once the tour is over, plus it takes you up and down Canyon Road, and also takes you up to museum hill, where you see various museums you may want to drive to after the tour. We felt it was a wonderful overview of some stops we would want to do on our own, including the Loretto Chapel, Canyon Road, and other museums the guide pointed out. You simply walk up to the parked tram (he arrived approx. 45 minutes before the tour began), sit in a seat and/or stand next to the tram, where the guide will ask you if you want to purchase a ticket, then start your tour. It gave us a lot of history about Santa Fe and a good start to know where we might want to go next.

This was a fun and informative tour of Santa Fe. It gives you a nice overview of the area. Like other reviewers, I recommend taking an early tour and then going back to the places you want to see more closely. The tour was also very helpful with identifying some good places to eat in Santa Fe. Bring a sweater because the tour goes up to higher altitudes, and it can get cold.

This tour definitely gives you a feel for what Santa Fe has to offer. We discovered a lot of great restaurants, galleries and places you would not find if you just walked around Santa Fe.

I recommend going on an earlier tour. We took the 230 and it got quite chilly and breezy toward the end of the tour.
The tour takes you up Canyon Road where it is all just galleries and cute quaint places.

Make sure and do it the first day you were there so you understand where everything is

My wife and I decided to take the tour and then go back to spend time at the places we noted. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area and Santa Fe history. Sorry I don't remember his name. The tour last about 1-1/2 hours. We're glad we took the tour.

Cash only for tour so be prepared.
