Great works of art? Not exactly.
But, you will discover what and who make up this unique Enchantment. Art work spans time from prehistoric to Indian/Pueblo art to Spanish colonial, to"expat" painters of the late 19th century to Georgia O'Keefe, Gustave Baumann, et al. to contemporary native New Mexican artists and their work.
The permanent collection is worth the stroll down New Mex. Memory Lane. You may come away with a greater appreciation for who and what came before us; who and what are among us; and, hope that the future of NM art will continue to thrive and flourish in its unique habitat.

The displays are crisp and smartly arranged. The variety of art styles draws the attention of every visitor. There are amazing pieces of Georgia O' Keefe art and Ansel Adams photography. Every display has a wall plaque that explains the background and its relationship to real events of the past, especially as related to New Mexico.

Enjoyed the retrospective of New Mexico art, "It's About Time:14,000 years of Art in New Mexico." Impressive collection of everything from ancient pottery to modern landscapes, selected and presented smartly. Appreciated the landscapes by Georgia O'Keeffe we had never seen in "Treasures Seldom Seen."

The gift shop was especially nice, too! Great collection of modern jewelry and handbags. Sunday morning is a very nice time to visit.

This small art museum draws on the very rich local artistic tradition and streams of influence -- Indian, colonial, Mexican, Western, 20th century academic, challengers to academic painting, and the eclectic explosion since the early 20th century. One gets a fabulous introduction to the vibrancy of the Santa Fe and New Mexico art world. Highly recommended.

Located near the Plaza, we found this gem while exploring downtown. The docent provided an informative guided tour and put the history of New Mexican art in perspective. Nice examples of most of the regions best painters and sculptors, we recommend a visit!
