My two daughters, my wife, and I thoroughly enjoyed the mountain trek in the pinzgauer. Chris was a great guide and gave good background information about the different areas we visited. Great views of the fall colors. The off roading was fun - smiles all around!

The highlight of our vacation to Santa Fe this summer was our hiking trip with Santa Fe Walkabouts. The perfectly customized experience started with the detailed and prompt communication we received while planning our trip by phone and email. Thanks to the many options and recommendations we received we were able to pick a hike that was perfect in length and difficulty. Our guide Georges was friendly, knowledgable, and passionate about the outdoors. The hike itself was beautiful and the packed lunch they provided was delicious. We could not have asked for a better guide or overall experience.

We recently took the sunset tour with Fritz and had such a great time! We were picked up at our hotel right on time in a Pinzgauer. That bad boy will go darn near anywhere! We drove out of town, and then the real fun started once we hit an unpaved part of the old Route 66. We made a couple of stops to enjoy the beautiful scenery, including scaling the side of a mountain! Although there was not a lot of sun that evening, we were treated to an amazing lightning storm off in the distance. Very dramatic! Fritz took excellent care of us, and it's obvious he enjoys what he does. Next time we are in Santa Fe, we want to do one of their hiking tours. Highly recommended!

Prior to my family's trip to Santa Fe in July, my wife contacted Santa Fe Walkabouts for suggestions on possible hikes given our interests and the fact that we would have our eight year old daughter along. SFW provided us a few different appropriate options, and we picked the one that sounded best to us -- a walking tour of the Bandelier National Monument.

Our guide was Deborah, and she picked us up at our hotel on the morning of our tour and drove us into Bandelier. During most hours of the day, visitors can't drive all the way to Frijoles Canyon (part of Bandelier) but have to take a shuttle bus in from White Rock. As a tour company, however, SFW is permitted to bypass the shuttle and take you to the canyon. Deborah drove us to Juniper Campground, which is adjacent to the canyon, and we then hiked the Frey Trail down into the canyon. The hike down this trail was amazing with breathtaking views plus the opportunity to explore the former cave dwellings of the ancestors to the Pueblo people.

All along the hike, Deborah explained the history of the area and answered our questions -- including answering (with good humor) a seemingly endless stream of questions from our eight year old. While the Frey Trail was not exceptionally difficult to hike, we likely wouldn't have tried it without an experienced guide like Deborah at our side. Personally, I really appreciated not having to be in charge or worry that we were taking a wrong turn during the hike. I could just enjoy the hike, confident that Deborah would make sure that we stayed on the right track.

On the canyon floor, we took a break and enjoyed some provided water and granola bars and then we hiked to the major sites on the floor. Finally, we ended at the Visitors' Center and then Deborah drove us back to our hotel.

The hike itself was a little over three hours and the drive to and from Bandelier took about another two hours. It wasn't an inexpensive tour, but it was worth the money for the experience we received. We will certainly look up Santa Fe Walkabouts on our next visit to Santa Fe!

We took the Sunset Tour, what fun! We were picked up at our hotel, took the ride, and delivered back at our doorstep. Along the way George, our guide was explaining all the sites. He made the trip so much fun, he thought of our every need! A cooler, packed with water and fruit, and best of all blankets for the ride back. He even knew the history of each blanket! Who would have thought we would see an unpaved portion of "pre 1937" Route 66 at the top of a mountain. We definitely plan on another tour with George.
