“This is How Chocolate Should Taste!”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

Kakawa offers a unique blend of high quality chocolate with a variety of spices, and herbs. The recipes date back several centuries which makes the experience more memorable. We had the pleasure of tasting all 8 blends and ended up ordering 6, the small (3oz.) for $3.50 and large (6oz.) for $6.50. I recommend trying the Aztec, which is a powerful concentrate of dark chocolate, cinnamon and herbs, not sweet, and has quite the distinct flavor! I also recommend trying the chili, which is a spicy and sweet blend with a long lasting after taste. We also sampled some of the hard chocolates, for $40/lbs but can be purchased by the one. The truffles were approximately $3.50/piece, and were ok. I would recommend sampling a few of the hard chocolates, but focus your energy on the drinkable blends…that's where the money is.

“Chocolate like it was meant to be”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

We thought it was strange that a chocolate shop was the best restaurant in Santa Fe until we tried it. For the rest of the trip we wished that we had bought more. The hot chocolate was excellent but it was really the local specialties.....chocolate with chilies that were special. It was not cheap but you get what you pay for.

“A unique dessert stop”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Yummy drinkable chocolate - not like normal hot chocolate, more like melted chocolate. Lots of gluten-free and dairy-free options. Cute building. They also have ice cream.

“Gasp!”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

I love chocolate like Augustus Gloop loves chocolate, so this place was number one on my list for Santa Fe must-stop spots.

The super-friendly and generous staff helped us snap out of our overwhelmed chocolate glaze, and offered samples of their Chocolate Elixers, as featured on the chalkboard. After downing a few shots, each with their own distinct spices and flavours, I chose the Rose Almond Elixer. My partner couldn't decide between the American and the Modern Mexican, so the staff suggested a mix of both. Perfect!

As we sat back, relaxed, sipped chocolate and devoured a chocolate wafer cookie, we admired the Milagros (Mexican tin art) on the walls. Lucky for us, you can buy them too, so we ended up leaving with full bellies, takeaway brownies (the chocolate and salted caramel is a winner!) and Milagros to take home to Australia!

If Willy Wonka's chocolate river was filled with Kakawa, I'd dive right in!

“Treat yourself”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

As people have stated before, this is not your skating rink hot chocolate. For those who like a more traditional hot chocolate, try the Americano or the Chai Chocolate (super good). For those who love intense chocolate more than a sugar taste, try the chili. My kids actually appreciated the fact that it doesn't come scalding hot so you can actually taste. We had the brownies based on reviews and while very good, I think for a once in a lifetime visit, stick with the truffles. My son had the chocolate ice cream which was by far, the most chocolaty ice cream we've ever tasted. Outstanding. Service is friendly and warm.
