The service was absolutely terrible and the food wasn't all that great either. The location is not ideal and the atmosphere is not very bright or happy.

Three of us had reservations for dinner on a pretty busy Friday night. Reservation request (near a fireplace) was honored. Possibly the servers were a little too quick in swarming around us to ask for drink, appetizer orders, but all were friendly and competent. Had one appetizer - fried oysters - enjoyed. Main meals were filet and BBQ chicken. Both were above average. Wine list surprisingly small. Kahlua and cream came with much ice despite request, and was rated as too weak. Raspberry pie was very good for dessert, and also the Café Mexicana was enjoyable. All in all - very solid - not outstanding.

My wife and I had dinner here on January 12 in order to use a gift card and to come back to a restaurant that we hadn't eaten in for many years. The first thing we noticed upon entering and being seated is how worn out the furniture is. The legs of chairs and tables are noticeably chewed up. The tops have seen better days. Nothing less than a complete furniture overhaul should be considered. Service was attentive. The service team approach, whereby everyone chips in on whatever duties are required at the time, can be a little unnerving. Sort of like service on steroids, or service schizophrenia. Slightly amusing, slightly annoying. A glass of Kermit Lynch Chardonnay was ordinary and overpriced at $10.50. Mushroom caps and Ceviche appetizers were simply plain and ordinary, with no distinguishing characteristics, nothing memorable, a step up from canned. The carrot ginger soup was uncharacteristically thick with no distinguishing flavor. The Shrimp and Scallops entrée, which we both had, was broiled and tasty, and fortunately not altered with someone's idea of unusual flavoring. Just sides of butter and cocktail sauce to accompany, the cocktail sauce being of no special distinction. I have been to the Steaksmith years ago when it was in downtown Santa Fe and not too recently in its present location. I do not remember it as memorable then and it hasn't changed a bit. Although the Steaksmith is not a chain and has been around for nearly 40 years (if I have that right), it is not a restaurant that I would recommend to anyone. The food overall is very ordinary. The staff are friendly, engaging, and even brought out a small sampling of their house pinon ice cream since we hadn't ordered it for dessert. They are competent. The food, alas, is not. We don't go out to dinner much, and we won't be selecting the Steaksmith to dine at on one of those rare moments. Even though, I hope they continue to serve the community well as they have for many years. Obviously, enough people like the place and the food to keep them going. All the best to them.

The waiters have a bit of a used car salesman demeanour, but the food was tasty and quick to arrive.

I went here with my family during the week of thanksgiving, mostly because they take reservations and were not exhorbinate in price. And my dad wanted a steak without the flare. The staff was somewhat inattentive. We were a party of 6, so a tip was included in the bill. The steaks were subpar. You could get a better one for about 10 dollars cheaper at a chain, like tx roadhouse and outback. There are some many places to choose from in Santa Fe. This is not worth the real estate in your stomach. (And the place smells like chlorine)
