I attended a magnificent concert yesterday at the Lensic. A seventeen year old violin virtuoso was accompanied by a spectacular orchestra. The second act was a perfect Beethoven's Third Symphony. Going home, I reflected on the gift that Pro Musica has been to Santa Fe over the years. I have lived here long enough to see ensembles come and go. Some I miss, but some just didn't get the essence of this town. The attitude of a larger town just doesn't work here. This is not Los Angeles or Denver, with the dreams and sometimes delusions of artistic grandeur of those big cities. We are smaller, with limited professional opportunities, but Santa Fe's heart is still art. It is still a mecca here for dedicated artists. Pro Musica is an organization that has lasted here and gets this. I hope those who appreciate world-class classical music recognize the gem we have in our midst, and keeps them alive and performing.
