Bottom Line Up Front: Despite some minor housekeeping glitches, the Don Gaspar Inn has enough pluses to make your stay in Santa Fe memorable.

Just 20 minutes before the front desk closed for the evening, I arrived solo at the Don Gaspar Inn, was checked in and taken to the Fountain casita which I booked for 4 nights. I noticed right away that the DVD player I wanted to use for in-room movies on quiet evenings was non-existant. Later, I saw there were no toiletries in the bathroom and not one single clock in the entire, otherwise-nicely-furnished room with full kitchen! Luckily, I had my own toiletries and my smart phone, and all of these issues were promptly resolved the next day. Must have been a glitch in the usual smooth operations (also found a bag of trash forgotten on my porch one evening) of this highly-recommended inn, that most travelers are sure to love.

Pros: unbelieveably quiet, convenient neighborhood location; top-notch, accommodating staff (Ana, Christine, Patrick); plentiful and tasty breakfasts; comfortable furnishings (great sheets and thirsty towels); CLEAN rooms; off-street parking; pleasant garden surroundings; pre-visit mailing of 'Inside Santa Fe' had me at "hello." Impressive.

Cons: pedestal sinks, though charming, leave little room for vanity supplies; limited DVD library; dim lightbulbs throughout room, made it tough to read; don't forget the need for a clock somewhere in the room; even just one updated magazine travel guide in the room would be appreciated -- the SF Visitors' guide in mine was 5 years old, so many of the restaurants and shops had closed or changed. [Somewhat offset by pre-visit 'Inside SF' mailing. ]

Despite the few negatives, I must say that Ana deserves recognition as an enthusiastic hostess, even after all these years! She is clearly a pro, and handles the needs of her guests with aplomb. And the sheer charm of the place should make repeat guests out of even particular travelers like me! I hope to return.

Room Tip: The Fountain Casita has a 2-person table on its tiny porch. Great if you like sitting outside for l...

What a great guest! You were so kind to flow easily with the housekeeping glitches. The check and recheck is stepped up since your visit, that's for sure. It was a pleasure to help you enjoy your visit to Santa Fe and we are updating all the guest information books in the rooms, it seems no one had mentioned that before and some how we missed it so thank you. We look forward to your next visit.

We just returned from a 4-night stay at the Don Gaspar Inn. Our trip was a last-minute plan so we had to grab what accommodations were available. We were so delighted with the Don Gaspar Inn. It is a short distance and easy walk from the plaza. Our room was clean, cozy, comfortable, and attractive. The courtyard was lovely and peaceful. The breakfast was healthy, varied, delicious and plentiful each morning. We loved visitng with staff members Patrick, Kristine and Anna. They welcomed us warmly and provided great tips on how to spend our time in Santa Fe. (Thanks again Partick for having the fireplace going to warm the room upon our late arrival.) It was a delightful experience and we look forward to returning again.

My stay at the Don Gaspar has been awhile ago, but the memories always bring a smile to my face. My sister had stayed there before and when making our travel plans, there was no discussion,"...we ARE staying at the Don Gaspar"!
It is nestled in a comfortable neighborhood with the square only a couple of blocks away. A quick walk that led us to explore more than we might have done if we had the car close at hand, and it afforded us freedom from parking costs.
We happened to stay in a guestroom that was wheelchair accessible. It is appointed beautifully with a roll in shower and becomes, if needed, a bedroom in a suite in one of the houses that make up the Don Gaspar complex. We had quick access to parking and the dining room, as well as the feeling of peace and privacy. Accommodations for parties of all sizes are available, but the two of us felt as special to Anna as a larger group.
The food is world class, and Anna's Green Chili Stew is served frequently at our home.
I know at least one more trip to Santa Fe is in my future. There is no place else I care to stay.

We stayed 3 nights at the Don Gaspar Inn in the Aspen Room. Very quiet room with a very comfortable king bed. Has a gas heater in the spacious room. Good night sleep every night! Convenient location a few long blocks from the center of Santa Fe. The staff was very friendly and the weather was grand so we were able to have breakfast on the patio in the courtyard. Breakfast selection included some healthy options, and the special was just okay. Overall, we would stay there again.

Room Tip: The Aspen Room was nice but not exciting but super quiet and would stay there again.

Thank you for your review. It is always helpful to get the guests persepective and it's good to hear that the Aspen room is quiet and you slept well. We're excited to go into the room and see how to make it more 'exciting' even though it is comfortable. The garden and sitting area right outside the room and the extra sofa sleeper with the air mattress topper have been features which guests have enjoyed as well as the warm gas stove in the winter. Again, thank you for your visit and we look forward to seeing you again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Don Gaspar Inn. It's conveniently located a few blocks from the center of Santa Fe and within walking distance of both the plaza, Canyon Road, and most of the other sites. We had a comfy suite with a living room, bedroom, and bathroom. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful, like a little oasis in the desert. The breakfasts were tasty and they gave us very helpful tourism suggestions. As it was between seasons we weren't able to use the heater and it was a bit chilly in the room. Nonetheless we really enjoyed the peace and quiet that this charming little Inn provided.

Thank you for staying with us at the Don Gaspar Inn during your visit to Santa Fe. We are glad to report we have all the fireplaces and gas stoves operating now. It has suddenly become fall and the leaves seem to be turning overnight. This is the time of year that people love to come and drive to the Santa Fe Ski area to ride the chairlift to the top and enjoy the Aspen in their yellow glory. We hope you will visit us again.

We stayed five nights in the Santa Fe suite. It's a lovely inn with a very nice location, away from the congestion and noise of the Plaza, but a 3 minute drive or 15 minute walk from the town center. The staff is very friendly and anxious to help with tourism suggestions, and the breakfasts are very tasty, although perhaps a bit lacking in lighter options. Our suite was well furnished and mostly comfortable. Nonetheless we won't return. The foremost issue was the bed -- the mattress was long overdue for replacement and extremely uncomfortable. Communication with the guests was also spotty. The printed materials in the room state that housekeeping is available until 2pm, but it turns out that when there are few guests, service ends much earlier with no announcement; we therefore missed having the room done several times (although were able to obtain clean towels later on request). There are detailed instructions in the room on how to use the gas fireplace, but we couldn't light it. We later learned that the pilot lights are not turned on until winter, again with no announcement, so if you want assurance of a fire, choose a room with a wood-burning fireplace. All in all, a pleasant property, but enough issues that we were somewhat disappointed.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We appreciate it when guests let us know areas we can improve. We routinely ask every guest when they book their room if they have any special dietary needs and always include fresh fruits, granola, two kinds of juice, artisan breads and jams, a cheese plate with fruits and organic yogurt for everyone as well as a special baked dish at each breakfast. We continue to find new recipes to offer our guests with special requests or requirements. We hope all our guests will let us know if there is something else we can offer to help them meet their needs.
Our beds are all fitted with top of the line Serta mattresses. We also have included 3 inch memory foam mattress toppers. We realize everyone has different preferences in firmness of mattress and have many guests rave about the comfort of the mattresses.
We have some rooms with operating fireplaces and others with gas stoves. Because we are a city at 7,000 feet it is necessary to have standing pilot lights in the gas stoves to keep them burning. We have found that the pilot lights put out so much heat in the summer that it is impractical to have them on. You were here during the first unexpected cool evening of the last weeks of August. Though our staff came over and attempted to light the pilot on short notice, we are sorry that it didn't work and will clarify our signs. We want everyone to feel comfortable in their rooms.
We give every guest a Native American Dream Catcher to put on their door as a 'Do Not Disturb' sign and to take home with them. Housekeeping respects that sign on the door. I am sorry that housekeeping missed you after 12 noon and we didn't get it clarified what the confusion was right away. We've changed our information in the rooms and request guests to let us know if they want housekeeping after 12 noon when they are staying over.
We did appreciate your visit and hope you will consider us again in the future. Thank you for your frank comments, this is what helps us to do a better job.
