“Like having your own home in Santa Fe”
Reviewed 22 July 2009

Have been coming to SF for 20 years and generally stay in hotels, both near the plaza, and the chains out in the suburbs. The Don Gaspar is the best lodging experience we've had in SF. We had a 2 room suite, excellently decorated, all the small touches that make it seem like home. No details overlooked. The breakfast was very good, with home made granola, fresh fruit, a southwestern inspired egg dish each morning, good coffee, good juice. The staff are courteous, and leave you alone if you wish, or will visit and make recommendations to insure a pleasant visit. Quiet, clean. Ours had a full front porch where we spent each evening. Highly recommended.

Don Gaspar Inn is in walking distance of downtown Santa Fe, but feels like a country inn. The gardens are beautiful - lush flowers, fountain, shady sitting areas. Our suite, the Aspen Suite, was easily accessible from an almost private entrance through a gate into the garden. The breakfasts were a bit odd - pulled pork and beans one morning, tamales another morning. But there was always bread to toast, fresh fruit and granola for those who would like a more traditional breakfast. We loved lunch or dinner at Cafe Paris (ratatouille crepes and goat cheese salad were wonderful as well as melt in your mouth pastries) , Atomic Grill (great pizza) and Blue Corn Cafe (the best guacamole). Georgia O'Keeffe museum is great - arrive by 10:30 for docent tour. Side trips to hike at Tent Rocks (go early in the summer and carry lots of water - it is hot) and Sandia Peak (take the tram up and hike to the Kiwanis cabin for spectacular views).

After a decade of dating my boyfriend and I decided on an easy but romantic destination wedding and The Don Gaspar was just the place to do it. We live in So.Cal so I did everything via the internet. I was excited when I received the recommendation of the Don Gaspar but had never been to Santa Fe. With the outstanding advise and help of Valerie I was able to put an intimate and charming wedding together in just a few months. Sarah did an amazing job making sure all of our needs were met and that my wedding was exactly how I wanted it. My husband and I were married in the beautiful courtyard at the center of the inn. The location is great, walking distance to the center of Santa Fe, restaurants, and the capitol. Breakfast was exceptional! We woke up every morning to a new and different dish ranging from local to traditional fare. We had three rooms there the Courtyard Casita, The Olive Room, and The Aspen Suite. Each was lovely and well decorated. I really liked The Aspen Suite. It is perfect for a couple or small family because of the separate rooms. All and all we had a great time and will be back very soon.

The Don Gaspar is a truly lovely spot: charming, with a delightful garden courtyard and an exceptionally friendly and engaging staff. The Courtyard Casita is spacious, beautifully appointed and romantic with its ever so private courtyard. Attention to detail abounds. Breakfasts are simply delicious and prepared with great care and creativity. It is a pleasant 10 minute stroll to the center of town. In short, this place is perfect!

This was an unexpected last minute find which turned out to be one of the most delightful places I have ever stayed. It's difficult to convey the effect of the combination of elements that make this such an unusual and charming lodging. The Courtyard Room with it's own sunny and very private back yard is more than just a room. It has its own porch , lobby, sitting room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom (all of which open onto the yard) and is decorated in local style with a lot of taste - like living in your own holiday home. There is no sense of hotel about it. The different rooms, and there aren't many, are so disposed, and the beautifully planted garden is apparently so designed, that each has its own space. Breakfast is different and delicious - a daily and always pleasant surprise. The management (a poor term as they almost become part of the family for your stay) are magnificent, full of good advice and tips, not to mention culinary skills! All in all splendid. I can't recommend this place highly enough for anyone passing through Santa Fe

We decided to take an extended weekend vacation to Santa Fe in December. We were very happy with the Don Gaspar Inn.
The food is made from scratch and delicious. My mouth is watering right now thinking about it.
But beyond the food, this inn is quaint and charming. The room we had (Territorial Suite) was spacious, comfortable, and charming as well. We loved the heated tile floors in the bathroom. What a great idea! Especially in December. We really enjoyed the comfort of our room.
Also, the Don Gaspar Inn is very close to one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants, Marias. That was a bonus. You have to see the margarita menu at Marias! It would be hard to top!
I would recommend the Don Gaspar in for a romantic weekend get away or similar travel. My wife and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

We had to make a last minute switch because our original lodging didn't work out. Don Gasper Inn was extremely helpful and our rooms ended up being fabulous. I loved all the little details; the rooms have a lovely Santa Fe flair. Plus we even had our own coffee maker, fresh coffee beans and a coffee grinder. The bed was luxurious and extremely comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious and were prepared by their Spanish trained chef. The location is convenient. It is a few minute walk to the Plaza. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.
