My husband and I rented the Fountain Casita and my sister and her husband rented the Colorado Room. Both rooms were very clean and the decor was very tasteful. All of us found the rooms to be very quiet which is a key factor aside from being clean.

The fountain outside our Fountain Casita was not yet running. We mentioned this to the staff who said she though it was still too early and it may freeze. Having a fountain of our own in Lakewood, CO we know that if the water keeps circulating it won't freeze this time of year. So we were disappointed that we didn't get to hear the fountain running. A couple other MINOR issues in our room was no dishcloth to wash your dishes and the tea was not replenished even when we left a note on the stove to do so - both we remedied later in the day once we brought it up to the staff.

The garden area was gorgeous and private - we really enjoyed the lush plantings and the flowers in bloom.

Each afternoon the super-friendly staff baked delicious fresh cookies or brownies and put out some nice fresh fruit.

Breakfast was typically coffee, tea, juices, cereal and granola, toast, egg in the shell, cheeses, great fresh fruit, and an entree. The only suggestion we would make is that while we love Mexican food we weren't crazy about the beef tamale casserole for breakfast (it was tasty but too heavy for breakfast for our tastes).

Parking was free and we liked that we could walk easily to the plaza.

Despite a few MINOR issues we LOVED the Don Gaspar Inn and its staff!

Many thanks to Melissa and Ana for a wonderful stay at the Don Gaspar Inn. It's located in a residential area about two blocks south of the New Mexico State Capitol, and within easy walking distance of the Plaza and area museums. Melissa and Ana recommended many great places to visit and eat, not only in the Santa Fe area but also in Taos, our next destination. Try the Don Gaspar first when checking out Santa Fe lodgings.

We recently traveled to Santa Fe and found the Don Gaspar via Fodors and Frommers online guides. After a long flight and drive from the airport, we were met by the innkeeper and given a tour of the grounds and our room. (Territorial Suite) She was very thorough in explaining where to find our in-room refreshments, operation of the fireplace, the location of extra soap, etc. She used a map of the area to show us where to find groceries, how to get to the historic sites, etc. She even returned a few minutes later to talk to us about how to avoid the negative effects of the altitude during our stay. The inn's location is ideal. We were within walking distance of most attractions and were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to drive in and around Santa Fe. The breakfast every morning was delightful. Other reviews have complained about the food, but we found everything was fresh and tasty. Granted, we were there during the week and not at the height of the tourist season, but we found breakfast to be very pleasant. The grounds are lovely and breakfast is held in a lovely area of the inn. Our plans were to stay for three nights, but due to a dust storm and the closure of the interstate we were to have traveled on, we were forced to stay another night. The staff was extremely helpful. Although our suite was not available, we were moved to the Courtyard Suite for the extra night. The staff completed the entire move for us while we were out during the day. Actually, our last day in Santa Fe ended up being the most fun. The staff made several suggestions about places to see. They also made a dinner reservation for us at what turned out to be our best meal in Santa Fe. We found both suites to be spacious and comfortable. Other reviews have complained about the price, but we have stayed in hotel rooms that cost this much or more, didn't include the breakfasts, or provide the privacy or spaciousness of the rooms we enjoyed at the Don Gaspar.

Terrific location in a quiet residential neighborhood, less than a 10-minute walk to the Plaza. Friendly, welcoming staff eager to make conversation and give helpful and spot-on tips for dining, day trips, shopping, etc. Abundant, delicious, home-cooked buffet breakfast in a glorious sun room. Rooms are spacious, comfortable, and beautifully appointed in quality southwestern style. Can't wait to go back!

We were going to Santa Fe on a recce for a conference that we were convening later in the year and this time period also coincided with my partner's birthday, so we wanted somewhere special and private, within walking district of the historical centre. We searched on the web, and this was also reccommended by friends who live in Santa Fe. What a find this turned out to be! Our 'room' was actually a suite with a double bed, large bathroom with bath and shower, separate living room and galley kitchen, all of it self-contained and separate to the main house but enclosed within the same walled garden. When we arrived we were shown to our suite - and the gas fire had been lit for us. What a welcoming sight this was! It also snowed whilst we were there and to come back to the rooms after a day of exploring on foot and have access to this immediate warmth was a real plus! The location was quiet, the staff helpful and friendly and we greatly enjoyed our time there. It is pricey but highly reccommended if you want a special time for yourselves.

Although the accomodations and location were great, the value was not there. We paid more for our stay per night than any other bed and breakfast we have stayed. Every other place, that aspires to be a bed and breakfast , that we have stayed was a very personable experience. The food was put out buffet style and my family rated that to be the worst meals of our vacation which included some fast food. I believe it would be because of the lack of value for what we paid and the huge dissappointment. We paid an extra $20 per person for each night over and above myself and wife in an expensive room that accomodates more that we had. The room was considerably more than the other rooms. For a $20 breakfast per person we would expect to get the quality of food and personal experience that makes us like staying in a b&b versus a hotel.

Overall we would not return to this facility.

SantaFeInn, Manager at Casa Culinaria Don Gaspar, responded to this reviewResponded 17 April 2010

We always regret when a guest is not satisfied with their visit. Our staff are extremely personable and always hospitable, professional and responsive to guest requests and needs - so this review is unexpected. A wonderful opportunity to consider how we may all do even better! (please see the many other reviews). To respond; All of our accommodations offer King beds and sleep 2 guests. We have 3 suites with pull out sofas and a 3 bedroom home for those guests who choose to utilize it for larger parties...over 3 or 4 people depending on sleeping arrangements. The "Main House" rate is the same rate as 2 suites but can sleep up to 6 guests which most famlies enjoy and find a very good value. Having over 1500 sqft, full kitchen, 2 baths, dining, living and family room is found to be quite the value by most. While we do serve breakfast in a buffet style due to the limited space we have in our historic pueblo adobe building - we have very few complaints on the food - which is varied and always includes a fresh, hot entry! Personal tastes may come into consideration as we serve traditional Southwest faire - with green and red chile which some may find different...especially teens. Even then - if notified, we will serve items to order per request! While we regret that this guest was not satisfied with the value of their accommodation for 4-6 pp....this is not a complaint we receive often since our accommodations tend to be more ample than most (which I think they also said) and priced very comparably to other Santa Fe inns. We wish them the best in their future travels!
