“Beautiful and perfect, save the 4:30am noise”
Reviewed 19 November 2011

Absolutely lovely hotel in the heart of Santa Fe. Great evening brandy and tea, along with an unbeatable breakfast buffet. Rooms are quaint an well decorated. Staff was very helpful, and suggested a good hotel for a family of four. Only negative was some sort of delivery truck that was active between 4:30 and 5:00am. Impossible to sleep through the amount of noise.

This hotel has the feel of an upscale motel with great perks: free breakfast buffet, free parking, great location just steps away from all shops and attractions of downtown Santa Fe. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast buffet is very diverse, yet high quality. There are about 100 rooms in that hotel, all assembled like a motel. The room we were in (double queen) was small, but had all we needed, and we didn't feel bother by the size. After all, there is plenty to do in Santa Fe and surroundings than staying in the room! We highly recommend the hotel, we had no problems, and had a great experience. The hotel restaurant was also quite the spot at night with a packed room of a night-cap crowd.

The Inn of the Governors is becoming our home away from home when we are in Santa Fe. Our Superior Room with the kiva fireplace embraces us with it's coziness. Unlike other visits, I was having some health problems which meant more time in the room than originally planned, but with a gentle fire in the fireplace, great beds, excellent on site breakfast and a $25 a day credit at their Del Charro restaurant, it was a great vacation. Our 4 night stay was too short and we anxiously await next years visit.
My only suggestion to the hotel is that it does need a bit of an upgrade. The large flat screen TV could be mounted on the wall and new dressers added that would free up more floor space in the room. The lamps are a bit over large and could be replaced with smaller ones for more space on the table tops. Our room really needed a new paint job due to the soot from the fireplace. Just suggestions but we were still 100% pleased with our stay.
The Inn's close location to the Plaza is a real plus with so many shops, museums and other historical landmarks just minutes away.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a Superior room with the kiva fireplace if the weather is cool enough. The Inn provides...

We stayed here three nights. I won't waste space repeating the praise of other reviewers. I am rarely so pleased with every aspect of my experience. I will definitely return here if I am every in Santa Fe!! The staff went out of their way to extend courtesies to us at every opportunity and that made our stay smooth and worry-free. The breakfast buffet is a phenomenal value. And the $25 daily vouchers for Del Charro restaurant made our other meal so inexpensive it almost made us feel guilty. Granted, the room was a bit small, but it was charming and clean.
And the pool was lovely. The four of us sat out there one warm evening with our drinks and it was a nice change of scene.

The Inn has not let its wonderful location (2 blocks of the main square) dictate its obvious unique identity, The hotel appears to have laid down roots over many years, One can see how it has expanded into adjacent buildings and taken over a restaurant. There is a charm about this wonderful slice of Sante Fe. Some parts of the Inn are very motel like - one goes in about and around hallways and stairs and balconies. We stayed in a very simple outside room (motel like) that was comfortable, although the heat was difficult to control. I know that the more up-scaled rooms have other amenities such as Kiva fireplaces and access from the inside. The adjacent restaurant Del Chaco obviously caters to locals as well as guests for lunch, cocktails & dinner. It was a warm and friendly. The menu while limited is very reasonable, perhaps accounting for its obvious popularity.
The Inn has a unique southwestern charm that we hadn't expected. The staff was more than accommodating, The late afternoon Tea/Sherry was amusing, the breakfast first-rate. The parking was a plus.

Room Tip: We took advantage of a special promotion that allowed us a daily restaurant allowance. This added v...

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in November for a long weekend get away. The hotel is easy to find, right on one of the main boulevards, about a five minute walk from the Plaza in the old town. We stayed in the 'traditional' rooms, older rooms arrayed along an outside corridor. It was a bit chilly walking outside to get to breakfast and the lobby, but the room itself was cozy. (Maybe even a bit too warm--it was hard to adjust the heat just right.)

The decor evokes old New Mexico, with lovely prints and Spanish style tiles in the small but squeaky clear bathroom. The furnishings are just a bit tired in these rooms, but we didn't come to Sante Fe to spend a lot of time in the room. Lots of freebies included in the room rate--free excellent hot buffet breakfast, free wireless internet (though signal was a bit spotty on the third floor room), free parking, and free tea and sherry every afternoon.

If I were staying in the off season again, I'd splurge for a room with a fireplace, I think. No question it's the first place I'll check next time we come to Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main part of the building are bigger with fireplaces.

Inn of the Governors offers the perfect combination of ambiance, convenience, comfort, location, good management and price in Santa Fe. We recently stayed 5 nights in a Superior King room located in the main building. The decor was authentic New Mexico, including a Kiva fireplace (additional wood was available down the hall), the bed and linens were first rate. There is a lively bar located beyond the pool and lobby which serves very fairly priced ($4-7) tasty snacks and light meals. The breakfast buffet is high-quality and comprehensive. It was an easy stroll from the hotel to everywhere we wanted to go except the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture located at Museum Hill. There is a manager's complimentary tea and sherry with biscochitos in the lobby each afternoon.
Only one minor complaint- the bathrooms are small.
