Loved the ambiance and decor of the hotel, and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The lobby has a pair of coolers in the afternoon and early evening, one containing water infused with fresh fruit and the other a fruit beverage, both complimentary, which made a refreshing welcome at check-in. The location of the hotel is great for exploring Old Town Santa Fe, and the parking fee was reasonable - just make sure you sign up for Hilton Honors (either in advance, or when you register), since that cuts your parking cost in half and gives you free internet.

We'd booked through Priceline, but were treated with courtesy and respect throughout our stay and were given our preferred room type.

This Hilton is showing its age, some of the room decor looks worn down. The pool is very nice and big but not little kid friendly because its very deep. The location and its restaurant Piñon are its best atributes.

Motels on Cerrillos Road are a lot cheaper and some are newer but staying at the Hilton so that you can walk to everything on the Plaza anytime you want for coffee, dining, shopping and museum hopping is worth the extra money. Isn't this the reason for going to Santa Fe?

PERFECT LOCATION, FRIENDLIEST STAFF IN SANTA FE, AND CLEAN COMFORTABLE ROOMS. I've had my fair share of Santa Fe hotel experiences from the posh to the average, I'm also very picky and expect a certain level of service-- the hilton near the historic plaza beats every hotel in town.

We did not intend to stay here, but were "sold out" of Buffalo Thunder resort and needed a place to stay last minute. This is as good as any place in downtown at the price point, but it's still an expensive option compared with everything else in the vicinity. It's built for comfort, not for luxury.

Here is my take of the entire Santa Fe lodging choices:

There are plenty of hotel options on Cerillo Ave (the road leading into town from ABQ) for less money. As long as you're not planning to drink heavily, you can easily stay at a newer property at a better value (Hampton looked okay; Hyatt looked great) - or stay north at Buffalo Thunder resort - because downtown is just too expensive for the value received and parking is readily available. Every hotel downtown was $200+/night and we checked out several hotels (including actually looking at rooms) before settling in at the Hilton downtown - ostensibly because we get HHonors points and the pool was huge.

I read many reviews and they are pretty much spot on. The staff here is great and truly goes out of their way to make your stay pleasant. The hotel itself is a historic property, but not a "grand old hotel", more like a dated Holiday Inn or a drive-in motel with the way the rooms sort of surround the courtyard/pool. There are no double-queen rooms, just "double-doubles" and that's my biggest complaint at this price point (and why it cannot be a 5 star).

The swimming pool is the largest in the entire downtown district - great for swimming laps and with a real deep end for diving (although no board). Honestly, if I were having a wedding party or a small convention where everyone knew each other - this would be THE place.
