“Beautifully maintained historic gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2012

This is a beautiful old hotel and the location simply can’t be beat. If you’re vacationing in Santa Fe and want to stay in the heart of Old Town, this is the place. Simply step out the front door and you are surrounded by the shops and restaurants on the Plaza.

We originally booked a King Suite but when we arrived we were informed we were upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite on the 5th floor – Suite 500. The suite consists of 2 separate rooms accessed by a small private corridor which leads to a huge private rooftop terrace. The suite is right next to the Bell Tower bar so we enjoyed the same beautiful sunset view without the crowd. Our rooms were clean, had comfortable beds and modern amenities like flat-screen TV’s.

The La Fonda is rich with history and has been beautifully maintained. Each room is unique with its own wonderful character. The whole property has an older, intimate feel that I absolutely love. Sure, it may cost a little more to stay here but it’s worth it. If you prefer modern accommodations, you will probably not appreciate the charm of the La Fonda and may be better served at one of the newer box hotels on Cerrillos Rd. But if you love the history and character you can experience at an older establishment, look no further – this is the place.

Room Tip: Highly recommend Suite 500!

The hotel is very old Santa Fe and by that I mean in decor and feel. We loved it.
We stayed in the cheapest room available. Who knew that there were rooms with only partial views of the sky?
Anyway, it was clean and small but comfortable.
The food and Marguerites are the best in Santa Fe. Music and dancing every night. No need to go any place else.

We stayed in La Fonda for 2 nights, having arrived late afternoon on our first night we didn't have much time to explore the facilities & town until the next day,
Our room was spacious and quiet despite being quite close to the lift. There was a fridge in the room and complimentary water.
We tried to go for a drink on the Bell Tower terrace but it was very busy & there were no unoccupied seats so we decided to go for dinner instead. This turned out to be a good move, the hotel has 2 dining areas, La Plazuela or La Fiesta Lounge (Mexican Buffet), we opted for La Plazuela & were fortunate to get the last table for 2 without a reservation, the service and food were very good.
The hotel has lots of character and little shops to visit, and is just off the main square in the town, so there's plenty to look at within a short walk.
We didn't use the pool/spa facilities, the hotel carpark was a bonus but comes at an additional charge.
We tried a late lunch on our second day at the La Fiesta lounge which was fine and plentiful, then we were lucky to go for early drinks at the Belltower on our second evening, here we enjoyed the warm sunshine pre sunset over a bottle of wine before heading out to sample the town's other establishments.

A must to do, go the bar on the roof top at La Fonda, closed from Nov - spring. Have a drink there after a full day of shopping, etc downtown. If it is a bit chilly, they provide blankets. Great view of the town, mountains, etc

This is not the first time we stayed at La Fonda...... for obvious reasons of course. To name a few: everybody is very nice and ever-ready to assist, rooms are clean, perfect spot/parking your car is not a problem so it's a walking distance to anywhere in the plaza. We have always enjoyed staying in this hotel. I feel great the minute I walk in to the lobby. I highly recommend this hotel.
What a delightful place to stay while in Santa Fe.

Room Tip: Our room is facing the corner (Packard, I think is the name of the store) and we loved it.

For "Traditional" room read "needs major refurbishment". Bed was comfortable but room was equivalent to a cheap motel. Mysterious wet patches on carpet and bathroom smelled badly of drains. If it weren't in Santa Fe right on the plaza they'd never get away with it.

Very impressed with La Fonda -- and Santa Fe! Excellent trip and yes, La Fonda is very convenient to all the shops, entertainment and dining. We were fortunate enough to meet and converse with quite a few locals at the hotel restaurant/bar (apparently La Fonda attracts a number of ppl for their nightly singing/dancing). Loved it. And, David Robinson, our Bellman, was top-notch! Very pleased and will stay at La Fonda again.
