“Come to Camboni's Italian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014 via mobile

Yay. There is a new Italian restaurant in the Conejo Valley. Thousand Oaks can now boast of Camboni 's in the Thousand Oaks Inn. My hubby and I had seen the new sign up for a couple of weeks. Let's go !! We were very surprised and happy we did. It's comfortable Nicely lit and has a pretty bar. Most importantly the food is great!!!! No short cuts here. Flavor and freshness is the key. The first night I had their pumpkin ravioli. To die! Yum. Gorgeous. The second time fettuccini with amazing light pink veal sauce. Thick with delicate fresh veal. The best !!!The desserts are all elegant and a wonderful finish to a great and lovely night of taste. My husband loved his salmon dishes. Hard to please too. They have a varied winelist and terrif and friendly service. Yay ! Yay! Go try now!

We stayed here on our trip along the Pacific Coast to San Diego - i decided to stay with best westerns along the whole trip and chose Thousand Oaks as we knew we were going to skirt around LA on our way to San Diego. I would say that the focus of the hotel was business travel and conferences. The front desk were very helpful - however for some reason, the booking that i had made online - didn't tally with what they had me down for - no more complimentary breakfast and a room for 2 people instead of a family of 4. The receptionist on the front desk was very helpful and honoured the price of a 2 person room as opposed to 4 and when i complained about the breakfast issue - she refunded me an additional $20 dollars of the room - so all in all - a 2 queen sized bedded room came to about £70 pounds or around $100 dollars - so not bad - and we still got the vouchers for breakfast.

The room itself was quite dated - it was quite hard to get up to the rooms and the lift wasn't very big - whilst the room was clean - there was a lot of empty fast food boxes and beer cans etc outside a lot of the rooms on the corridor we were on - bearing in mind we arrived around 4ish - i would have thought these would have been cleared by then. As the rooms are built around an open courtyard system - this concerned me in terms of insects being attracted to the empty food containers.

The room was not particularly big and the A/C units were very loud. The bathroom was not big - and the towels a bit thin. The TV was ok, coffee making facilities, microwave and free wi-fi - no safe.

We did make use of the pool and hot tub - which wasn't too bad - kids enjoyed it. We decided to walk up to the Oaks Mall for dinner - which works well and is about 10 mins away - only issue for me - unlike the UK - not really a pavement/sidewalk to walk on.

Breakfast was a huge disappointment - i am not sure the restaurant is geared up for breakfast - there were no options for the kids - such as cereals/toast etc - it all seemed very expensive and not very good quality - the apple juice my daughter was given was definitely on the turn. Personally, i think this lets the hotel down. Maybe they should negotiate with the restaurant for some type of buffet style breakfast - might be easier and quicker for travellers.

This hotel is old. Got to my room no tv remote. Called front desk and waited 30 minutes and still nothing. Toilet keeps running and running. Called front desk 3 times no answer at 4:00pm? So I walked to front desk and she said oh I haven't forgot you just the he doesn't come in to work till 4:00. So I waited until he was there to walk over and fix the room. Why they call this a plus I have zero idea if this is plus how bad is just a regular. If you are ok with a motel 6 then this is your spot. I will never stay here again.

PURPOSE FOR TRIP:
My wife and I took a trip to the Los Angeles to attend college orientation sessions with our daughter. I lived in Westlake Village from 1985 to 1990 and knew the area was nice so we decided to stay there even though it meant a longer drive to our daughter's university. We were trying to stay within a budget and this was a good choice.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Nice pool & hot tub; about a 35 minute drive to Zuma Beach; walking distance to The Oaks Mall; located in a safe, upper scale community with lots of places to dine & shop close by; Plenty of parking (free); Friendly office staff. Free WIFI.

SHORT FALLS:
A/C in the room was very loud; Breakfast coupon pays $5 of $7.50 meal.

== REVIEW ==

MAIN ROOM (#322): Our room was a little on the small size even though it came equipped with a kingsize bed, but the bed was comfortable and the flat screen TV was a good size. The closet had no door on it which felt a little cheap, but not an inconvenience. The room had a nice size balcony with a view of the mountains; however, it also had a view of A/C units on the roof of the office & event rooms along with a view of US 101. Room was also equipped with a DVD player, small coffee maker, small fridge and small microwave. The A/C worked very well, but was extremely loud and made it difficult to sleep - unless it was turned off.

BATHROOM: As with the room, it was small, but adequate. Decent water pressure. The bath towels were adequate, but a little small & thin. Came equipped with a blow dryer.

ADDITIONAL: Pool & hot tub were very relaxing after a long day tangling with LA traffic - we must have gotten cut off by someone at least 5 times a day; Office has a nice selection of DVDs for guests to watch, free of charge. Nice courtyard in the center of the hotel - we bought some Baja Fresh for dinner one night and ate it in the courtyard.

BOTTOM LINE: I'd recommend this hotel as a decent place to stay if your are visiting the Los Angeles area. If the A/C was not so loud, I would have rated it higher.

Thank you so much for your detailed review of our property and your stay. The area has changed a bit since you moved away in 1990, but I hope you still found it to have the same charm as it did when you lived here and was able to catch up with friends.

Our Standard King rooms are our smallest rooms at 300 sq ft and do overlook the front building and Highway 101, which is why we do price and market those rooms considerably less than our other, larger rooms. Nonetheless, we do make every effort to make those rooms comfortable and functional.

This winter, we are in the process of renovating the bathrooms, which will include adding a curtain at the closet. (The area is too tight for a door, and it's too close for a standard closet curtain.) Our A/C are wall units, which do make noise an issue. Although our units are considered quiet by industry standards for wall units, they are louder than central units. Our staff has serviced the specific unit in Room 322 to address any additional noise issues.

I hope your daughter is enjoying her first year of college. On your next visit to Los Angeles and the Conejo Valley, ask for one of our King Bed Deluxe rooms. I hope you will find it much more comfortable and enjoyable for your stay.

I have no clue how this is a BW Plus! The bed was comfy and the linens smelled good, but that's where the positives ended.
Checking in was a struggle because the front door looks like the back door to the restaurant next door. There's no sign that says Front Desk.
Right away we felt super cramped. Our room had one bed- and honestly there wouldn't be room for two queens- it was so small. When I went to get the bags from the car I came back and the door didn't close all the way. You have to physically yank it shut to close it, and it's super loud and disturbing to others.
The bathroom door didn't shut all the way and the where the wall and tile met was grimy. There was only a piece of a toilet paper roll that didn't last very long, with no extra roll in the room. Very frustrating.
The walls were so thin we could here the guy next door snoring over the TV and we woke up to the sound of a vacuum. It certainly wasn't a quiet and peaceful place to sleep.
I was bummed to see that instead of a breakfast you got a $5 voucher for the Italian restaurant next door- who wants Italian for breakfast!?
We will definitely find a new place to stay next time.

Thank you for your candid review of your stay. Although we do not have a sign outside the hotel that says "Front Desk", we do have a 50 ft wide, 30 ft tall carport and an awning over our main Lobby entrance. We will be redesigning and renovating the Lobby in the Spring of 2015, but the exterior design will not change.

We are in the process of renovating all of our guestroom bathrooms, which will improve their style, design, and functionality, including making bathroom amenities more easily identified by our guests. Unfortunately, our most economical, Standard Single King rooms are small at 300 sq ft. We do have Deluxe Rooms that are 350 sq ft with 2 Queen Beds or a California King with a Queen Sofabed.

At the end of May, our new restaurant opened. Although it is an Italian restaurant, I do hope you tried the food. The Italian menu for lunch and dinner take to your senses to heart of Italy, and breakfast offers amazing French Toast using Ciabatta bread, Eggs Benedict with Prosciutto, Whole Wheat Pancakes, and a variety of fluffy omelets.

On your next visit to the Conejo Valley, I do encourage you to try Camboni Italian Restaurant & Bar for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and meet the owner, Executive Chef Eleano Camboni. You'll love Eleano's big Italian personality and his stories of cooking and growing up in Sardinia.

We were in Thousand Oaks to attend a theater production, and picked this hotel because it was only a few minutes from the theater. The grounds and public spaces were surprisingly nice, and the rooms were spacious and clean. We had a suite, and I appreciated the extra sink outside of the bathroom. Jeff at the front desk was wonderful. We were traveling with friends who requested a room change. One of them also needed some help with an awards program issue, and Jeff was gracious, patient and helpful throughout all of it. He suggested a running route for me and my husband, and we were pleased that we could run from the hotel to the Santa Monica Mountains park headquarters, just a short distance away. We did not eat at the restaurant.

Room Tip: We liked our suite. It was on the first floor, but was very quiet. It was close to the pool, and t...
