Skip Mammoth and go to Luray. There are wonderful formations throughout the entire path of the tour. Few steps and even possible with a wheelchair. Pavers and stout railings lead you though the wonderland of formations. Photographs and flash are allowed. Nice gift shop and food available.

This is my second time to Luray Caverns. The last time I was there was as a child and I was looking forward to seeing it this time around (44 years later).

The place is different now... a much larger pavilion has been built along with a couple of museums. The car museum -- included -- was impressive. We didn't have time to do the garden maze, but it sure looked like fun.

One big downside: The snack bar is below mediocre. The ONE vegetarian option was an overly soaked in grease grilled cheese. My friends who ordered hamburgers were also let down. I don't mine paying more for better; they should make it better.

Aside from the lunch, everything else was perfect.

Summary: LOVE the place, eat first or after somewhere else.

The caverns themselves were beautiful and we were glad we visited. The tour however was awful. A very young man (seemed like a high school kid) just spewed some script he'd memorized which mostly consisted of noting the patterns in the cave - "that one looks like Snoopy". Very little science or history of the cave, the guide could not answer any questions, we got nothing out of it. For the high price of the required tour I expected better.

Beautiful caverns with very knowledgeable guide and a comfortable 55 degrees. The organ music played off the formations is worth the trip down.

The underground caverns featuring stalactite formations are truly amazing. You are lead on a one hour tour along a brick pathway with the beautiful formations all around you. The spaces are surprisingly huge and described as cathedral sized rooms, which they are. The formations are well lighted which made for easy viewing. We went in early May during the week and it was not crowed at all. We only had to wait ten minutes for the tour which included about two dozen people. The guide was very informative and allowed plenty of time for viewing and taking pictures. Included in the price of admission are two other attractions, the car museum and the Luray Valley Museum. The car museum was great. The Valley Museum was just OK. Entry fee was $24. Other options were available that allowed entry to other attractions.
