“Not very Clean”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

We had first called the other name brand hotels in the area to find they were booked solid. So we came upon the Luray Caverns Motel and decided to give it a shot. Its a throw back in time which was as expected. Old style motel that appeared to have had modest renovations in last ten years or so. Air conditioner grill was broken and fell off each time my kids walked past. TV buzzed and became distorted if volume turned up higher than a whisper. A fold away cot was requested and it was so caved in that we laughed as my daughter went to sleep on it. All of this is par for the course at most old motels but what was not acceptable was the cleaning (or lack thereof). The floor in the bathroom looked to have not been cleaned - bugs (some dead and at least one alive) and HAIR (of the not-so-straight variety). After folding and setting away the comforters which I consider standard practice it was time for bed inspection. No evidence of bugs - thats a good thing! Now the bedding - the bed sheets were clean but the blankets were clearly not washed as evidenced by hair left from former visitors. For a parent with small children who touch everything as if they were home it was a little dissettling.

WE stayed at the caverns motel East for one night because of its location and the pool, which was of adequate size, fairly clean and open til 10 PM, although there was no gate to close it with anyhow. Because of some bad reviews, I asked to see the room first, and I was given the key to room 7 to take a look. It looked clean, new carpet, nice view off the rear deck, but I forgot to lay down on the bed to test the matress. So we checked in and went to the caverns for the afternoon, relaxed in the pool for an hour or so, changed and went to dinner. Finally collapsed in bed and discovered the matresses were saggy and worn out. Took 2 Advil PM and slept all night anyhow in separate beds. Would go back but ask for a room with new firm beds.

My fiance and I went to Luray to see the caverns and Skyline Drive for our anniversary last month and we could not have been happier with the motel. It's cottage feel was cozy. The room was abnormally large with a walkin closet and small but adequate bathroom. Our view of the mountains from our large portrait window was breathtaking. The tv did have a limited selection, but did you go to the mountains to watch tv? We absolutely loved it, everyone was so friendly and helpful. We would definitely be willing to stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a room all the way in the back down the hill behind the swimming pool.

Spacious room w/ 2 queen beds
Nice view from balcony (2nd floor rooms)
Bringing a glade plugin wouldn't hurt :)
Coffee maker but no refrigerator
Bathroom sink was outside bathroom so 2 people could get ready at the same time
Tube television w/ limited channels
Shower curtains need to be replaced because they flew inward & up showering
Staff was friendly & helpful

Next to downtown
(Wouldn't recommend Uncle Bucks for breakfast on the weekends because the wait was too long.)
A mile from Luray Caverns
(Giant card gives you half off 2nd ticket)

***Make sure you use Main St address in your GPS and not Cave Hill Rd address to get to Motel East.

This was my third year in a row staying her while doing a 4 day golf marathon so to speak. We had 14 guys for a golf getaway where we play 36 holes each day on Thurs/Fri/Sat and 18 on Sunday. It is a good thing that you are absolutely worn out each night at bedtime.
The sheets and blankets must have swiped from when they shut down the Bates Motel. There is no such thing as a bath towel, see through and very small. Paint peeling everywhere and spiders in ever corner imaginable. The tv in my room looked like the one I gave to my daughter when she headed off to college in 2000. The staff is nice enough and the ice machine filled our beer coolers each day so that was a plus.
This place suits our needs for a place to lay your head after a long day of drinking and golfing but I would not recommend to family or friends.........even my enemies deserve a decent place to sleep

Room Tip: Flip a coin, all small and in need of repair

This motel needs to be torn down.Keep the location as it is the only thing it has going for itself.the ice bucket had no top so i went to the front desk for a new one .I was told by this mature lady that all she could do was give me a paper plate to put on top,It was too late and too many miles to change at that time so I toughed it out. What a dump,i should have slept in the car.I could go on about this place but why bother.
