What a delightful vacation spot! We had to cancel a Blue Ridge trip last fall, so decided to look a bit closer to home for a winter getaway--and found this gem of a cabin right on the Shenandoah River north of Luray. Thoroughly modern and thoughtfully equipped for comfortable escapes--no roughing it here! There are several caverns and museums located nearby that are open year-round; other outdoor activities were limited by the cold (ice on the river), but we enjoyed s'mores by the firepit, and saw a bald eagle in the back yard. Amenities inside included a fully-equipped kitchen, Jacuzzi in the upper bath next to the loft bedroom, and very comfortable sofas for reading or watching TV/DVD in front of the gas fireplace. A very nice marriage of style and function! We hope to visit again when we can sample some river floating and fishing.
Wonderful place , gorgeous house and very friendly owners.
The place it's truly amazing exactly what you see in the pictures. Very organized and very clean + fully equipped with everything you need . We really enjoyed our stay.
My wife and I stayed here for our 13th anniversary weekend in Luray and the surrounding area. The cabin is close to all the wonderful beauty of the area as well as many fantastic restaurants and activities. It made for a terrific "home base" from which we could go play in the mountains.
The cabin itself is beautiful. It's very well-maintained, comfy, and was even decorated for the season. I had a question upon arrival (no fault of Gene's--my own inability to use TripAdvisor) and they responded very quickly.
Tip: phone/data reception is spotty in the area. Consider unplugging and grabbing a few paper maps/travel guides for the trip.
It was a great place to stay! It was very relaxing and just what we needed for a long weekend to recharge our batteries!! It was close to a lot of restaurants that we were able to try out!! I would definately book this rental to stay in again.
Peaceful , gorgeous views. Very clean and everything you could possibly need is right there. Loved the loft ! Close to all Luray activities and some great restaurants and parks. Located on the river with a canoe and great fishing. Gorgeous stary nights with great bonfires. Enjoy your stay !
We had a wonderful stay at The Shuck! The house is clean, comfortable, quiet and in very good condition. Our 2-year-old loved all the space and the very short walk to the river was perfect for us to be able to go back and forth all day. We all enjoyed using the canoe and watching the deer graze in the field across the road. There's no wifi, so definitely come prepared with any necessary kid entertainment downloaded, but it was really nice to be mainly unplugged for the long weekend.
Cozy cabin with all the necessities and many niceties. Quiet, peaceful and very hard to leave. Watched the deer graze in the field across from the deck while enjoying a glass of wine with toes up and enjoyed coffee and a good book in the morning! We made s'mores in the fire pit and grilled out. The local antique stores were worth visiting. Did not fall in love with any of the local dining spots but we had a decent kitchen and grill and wished we'd made more use of the cabin amenities - lol.
