“Great cabin”
Reviewed 18 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

The cabin is great...has everything (bikes, canoes, DVD's, games, lot of linens, pots and pants..). The backyard was enormous and lead straight to private water front. My only complaint was that it wasn't so clean. We still had a good time and would use it again.

Thanks, Tahanny, for your kind words and for taking a minute to tell others about your time! Could you tell me which items weren't clean? We take cleanliness very seriously and would like to go over those items with the housekeeper.

“Perfect for Friends, Childen, Dogs”
Reviewed 29 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We had a crew of 4 adults, 2 toddlers and 2 dogs. Chaos was bound to ensue but Bear Bluff cabin allowed each and every one of us to experience our different definitions of fun. For the adults, it was amazing. The property was very private. There are a fair amount of cars coming/going on the road directly in front of the cabin but you're not hanging out there anyway. The jacuzzi was nice and the firepit was awesome. We were able to cook, socialize and keep an eye on everyone all at the same time. The children always had something new an interesting to experience. Playing in the river, going out in the canoe and smores were their favorites. The dogs probably had the most fun out of all of us! The swam all day in the river while we lounged or canoed. They also had a blast running up and down the long strip of land and "patrolling" the perimeter. They also got in on the campfire and curled up with us at night as we hung around the firepit. All in all, it was spacious and serene, which is exactly we were looking for as we escaped the DC area. My one word of caution is that walk from the cabin to the river is pretty substantial. It's clear the whole way there and wasn't an issue for us, but it would definitely be a challenge for elderly individuals or expectant mothers. The children got tired on the walk, so be prepared to carry them or make space for them in the little red wagon. Loved the wagon. Be prepared to camp out down by the river when you go so be thoughtful about what you bring or you may be riding the bikes back and forth, which was its own type of fun. Definitely recommend!

“4 Pre-teens and no electronics needed!”

We stayed Presidents weekend and had the best time. We didn't use Xbox, phones, computers et al. There was plenty to keep everyone occupied the entire weekend.
We even took the canoes out and went down the river a little.
The fireplace was perfect for the winter days and nights. The kids enjoyed the pool table, ping pong and fuseball tables. They rode bikes and canoed down the river a bit.
There were board games and the hot tub was just and added plus!!
You know you had a great time, when the kids tell you what a great weekend they had and want to come back in the summer for fishing and hiking!
I thought for sure we would have to drive to attractions and we didn't even leave the cabin.

“Nice location”

The vacation rental home really had everything we needed including a washer and dryer wish was not mentioned in the listing. It is a long hike to the river but its very nice once you get there! The main things to do here are centered around the Shenandoah river such as tubing and canoeing. If you are looking to rest and relax this is the town to go. If you're looking for a lot of things to keep you busy like restaurants, night life, etc this is not the town you want to visit. But overall, things were nice and we had four peaceful days!

“Great location on a beautiful piece of land by the river”

The cabin itself is nice, but it's the location and the property it's on that makes it great. It's on a quiet gravel road a few turns off the highway. Other houses are nearby, but not too nearby. The backyard is a beautiful open lawn surrounded by trees on both sides, and about a three to five minute walk from the river. There's an awesome firepit close to the house, and another one by the river. My gf and I spent a couple awesome nights eating dinner and talking by a roaring fire. In the mornings, we would take our breakfast out back and end up staying out there for hours, reading, drawing, and talking.

It's also about a 30 minute drive to Shenandoah National Park, where we went on a couple nice hikes. And 20 minutes or so from the town of Luray. We did a lot of cooking at the cabin, and there is a great place in Luray called Willow Grove Farm Market that sells grass fed meats and wild caught fish, and a few other odds and ends. There's also a farmers market in Luray on Saturdays that I wish we'd made it to.

The folks who manage this cabin are very professional. When we arrived we had a problem with our refrigerator. Things happen—the real question is how will people handle it. Tara was very helpful on the phone, giving us the lockbox code to a neighboring cabin that happened to be unoccupied so we could store our food in the fridge there until they sent someone to fix ours the next morning. And they agreed to give us a small discount to make up for some food we lost before we realized the fridge wasn't staying cold.

One small negative was that there seemed to be a lot of yard maintenance folks coming by. A guy mowing the lawn, someone else trimming the hedges. When someone else came by to whack the weeds, we asked him to come back after our checkout and he kindly agreed. So, no big deal really.

Also, the knives in the kitchen were a little dull!
