“Amazing Weekend Getaway.”
Reviewed 18 October 2012

We had an amazing weekend at The Cottage. The cottage is amazing and perfect for a couple looking to get some rest and relaxation. The views were spectacular. If you love the outdoors, this is an ideal location for exploring near by hiking trails. The town of Luray is also super quaint and neat. Can't speak highly enough about our experience.

Beautifully situated, and exactly as pictured. Perfect for an overnight or weekend getaway for two. Lots of animal friends, a stunning view, a comfy bed, a hot tub... what else could you ask for? We will definitely be back.

This cottage as billed as a B&B and the bed was sooo comfy and the breakfasts that Betsy provided were delicious and very filling. Betsy brings the food over the evening before and just leaves it in the fridge and you can help yourself when you are ready the next morning. My husband and I would eat what we wanted and then either take the rest for lunch or eat it for dinner at some other point. This is a great couples location, but could probably accommodate one child too. There are several websites with cottage photos and they are an accurate reflection of what we found...in fact, things were probably BETTER than we saw on line.

Ed and Betsy were so nice and we enjoyed sitting with them watching the sunset over the mountains. They have a historic farm where the cottage is located--the cottage is a revamped meat house!--- and Ed gave us a great walking tour of the barn and surroundings. These guys are so nice and will give you as much "space" as you want while you are on their property. Dogs, horses, chickens & cats are all there for your viewing pleasure too. Betsy has some great landscaping items and the plants and garden were just getting started when we visited in mid-May.

Everything you could need is in the cottage and the location for day trips is great. We went to Manassas one day and explored some Civil War battle sites, took a drive on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park the next day and then went over to New Market and saw a Civil War Reenactment the next day (THE SOUTH WON!). I am a part time photographer so everywhere we went was a photo opp as far as I was concerned.

The town of Luray has every modern convenience so you know that means a dang Walmart.....but my point is the cottage is only a few miles from town so don't feel like you have to bring everything with you.

From central SC the drive is about 7 hours, but we left on Wednesday and the traffic was not a problem driving up and only a little heavier driving back on Sunday. This is definitely a location we will visit again.

The Cottage at Raven's Roost offers a unique approach to the B&B experience. Located on a farm with exceptional views in every direction, it is a extremely well appointed studio cottage. Betsy and Ed are warm and inviting. The Farm has a civil war history and is an interesting spot to hang out. Ed offered us "free range" to look about the place. It currently is home to friendly dogs, cats, roosters, chickens and horses. We came to see Luray Cavern's but I left feeling that the cottage and Raven's Roost were indeed a destination of its own!
I say that Betsy's breakfasts were incredible. She brings you food to stock your fridge and our breakfasts were so bountiful that we didn't eat lunch either day. In fact I ended up taking some of her homemade bread into work the following Monday. She provides both a hot meal that you can heat up in the oven, fresh fruits, and her homemade breads. I popped a dish in the oven and went out to enjoy the farm to return to a delicious homemade meal. Russ chose to remain in the luxurious king sized bed.
Sunday morning I fed the horses some carrots and apples. They were instantly my pals and proceeded to follow me about the farm behind their fence but ever present. This was an exceptional weekend getaway!
Thanks for everything Betsy and Ed we hope to see you again in the spring

If you are looking for a unique, romantic and restful getaway near Shenandoah Valley National Park, you've found it! After a day spent hiking in the icicle-laden park, we enjoyed warming up in the outdoor hottub at subset, gazing at the stars (a rarity for us city dwellers) and waking before first light to hear the wind blowing through the valley. Staying here means having a luxuriously appointed, free-standing studio all to yourself. The horses, chickens, dogs, and cats on this working farm are friendly and fun to observe. A plate of home baked cookies was awaiting us when we arrived, as was the next day's breakfast, a full pan of quiche, homemade zucchini bread, yogurt parfaits and orange juice. Great food. We left with two dozen fresh eggs from Betsy and Ed's productive hens. Wish we'd had more nights to explore the history of the place and its owners, including ties with the better known Edgar Allan Poe. A truly special experience!

My husband and I needed a peaceful retreat after a devastating family loss. We were looking for a private, quiet atmosphere hosted by loving, understanding people. Well, we got that and so much more while staying at the Cottage at Ravens Roost Farm! What was depicted on the Cottage's website was an understatement of the peaceful, healing getaway we received!
The cottage was a few yards away from the house, so there were no unexpected noises, except for a faraway, distant train and the occasional horse whinny. The sunsets were beautiful and breathtaking and could be seen from inside the cabin. There were curtains (not shown on the site's pictures) that allowed for privacy in the evening. There was everything we needed and more in the cabin for a relaxing, easy stay: books, comfortable reading chairs, robes, gorgeous views, jetted bath, candles, adjustable lighting, ipod dock, dvd/cable, beautiful plants, extremely comfortable king bed, the list goes on and on. Outside, we had access to a hot tub, a fire pit/chiminea, firewood, outside tables, lounge/adirondack chairs, herb garden, farm animals, etc. They gave us a military discount too.
Our hosts, Betsy and Ed, were so kind and accommodating, yet not invasive. They allowed us our privacy. Ed let us have access to his woodshop to make a keepsake box to remember our loved one. He was so kind to show us how to use his many carpentry tools, and even gave us some much needed tips and advice. Betsy made the most delicious breakfasts, and they were different every day. We loved that she brought us breakfast the night before, so we could wake up at our leisure and make the breakfasts ourselves the following morning. She has created the most tranquil of settings inside the cottage, that makes for such a 'homelike' feel. Both Ed and Betsy showed us the compassion we needed, and it was greatly appreciated. The many animals on the farm were just as loving and kind as their owners.
The town of Luray was less than three minutes away, which was convenient. The caverns were also a short distance away. There were beautiful walkways, trails and historic buildings just down the country road from the Cottage. This was an ideal location for our needs. The week we spent in Luray and our time at the Cottage has been the most healing, relaxing and uplifting times to date since our loss. It will remain a very bright spot in our memories at a very dark time in our lives. We tell anyone and everyone that if they are looking for a relaxing getaway to heal and to embrace life, this is the spot. We hope to return to the Cottage every year in tradition and remembrance.

We stayed at this small cottage for several nights in October 2011, and this turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip!

This cottage is located in Luray, VA, which is a short 15 min drive to the Thornton Gap entrance for Shenandoah National Park. The website for this B&B has an extensive collection of photos of the cottage; I did not take any because I felt the photos accurately depicted the cottage.

The bed was extremely comfortable and it was nice to use the jetted tub (although the hot water tank is not large enough to fill up the tub on the first attempt and one has to wait for the hot water tank to heat more water). There are horses on the premises, and it was very peaceful to wake up to the sight of horses in the pasture. There are also several rambunctious cats and dogs who were very friendly and excited to meet us.

The homemade breakfast was delicious and it was very convenient to have a kitchen. The wireless internet signal was reasonable the first night but dropped the second night...maybe because it was raining rather heavily? We did not ask Betsy and Ed about the internet signal since we were already ready for bed, but maybe rebooting the router would have helped.

I really liked the privacy and peace of this location, and will definitely stay here next time when I am in the area!
