Piney Hill was a nice place to stay. The setting is definitely gorgeous, especially if you are looking to get away from the city for a weekend and be in the middle of nowhere. During one nap we were woken up by a cow mooing! The highlight was definitely the outdoor jacuzzi, which has breathtaking views of the mountains. It was extremely relaxing to take a soak after a day of hiking! The chocolate chip cookies that are always available are a close second in the highlights.

As the other reviews mentioned, Wiley and Hank are very warm and are exceptional hosts. They have some great stories!

There were a few reasons this did not get a top rating of 5:

-The bed in the Mark Ruffnor room was not terribly comfortable and both my fiancee and I did not sleep extremely well on the bed. We could feel the coils in our backs on some places of the bed.

-The breakfast was good but nothing exceptional. We had an egg casserole one morning and marinated french toast the 2nd morning. All of the food was very good and I do not have any specific complaints, but it just wasn't tremendous or the best breakfast I've ever had. One thing that could have been better was having fresh orange juice, not just Minute Maid. But, to their credit, the presentation of the food was great, there was plenty of it, and it did fill us up for most of the day! It just wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had.

-The "fireplace" in the Mark Ruffnor room is two butane cans sitting behind a couple of logs. It has a wonderful effect of a fireplace but does not give off a ton of heat, even when sitting in front of it (and I was told having an extra butane can would cost us extra money). But it is still very nice to have it there, as it has the visual effect and the popping sounds of a real fireplace.

Piney Hill is a beautiful, peaceful, warm, fun getaway and each time I've visited (4) I have enjoyed it (and Luray) in new and different ways. Hank and Wiley are extremely friendly and work so hard to make everyone's visit feel special, relaxing, and fun. I highly recommend this B&B, not only because it offers a wonderful place to rest and eat and relax, but also because it is located so close to so many great things to do (hiking, horseback riding, skiing, antiquing, you name it!). You will not regret visiting Piney Hill, and you will return again and again!

We couldn't have asked for a better place to get engaged than Piney Hill! It was a very romantic place to vacation for two days with the one you love! The scenery was beautiful, as was the accomodations of the private cottage! The cottage was quaint, warm, and very well taken care of! We fell in love with the cottage immediately! This was our first bed and breakfast, and it was a wonderful experience! Hank and Wiley are the most gracious and helpful hosts! They are very talented cooks, and they love to cook creative and delicious breakfasts for their guests! Both gentlemen have wonderful sense of humors, and they like spending time getting to know their guests.

There was so much to do while vacationing at Piney Hill! We were able to get couple's massages, spend time in the jacuzzi, go antique shopping, visit both Luray Caverns and the Shenadoah Valley, and go horseback riding just to name a few! Whether you are coming for a peaceful getaway or a getaway full of activity, Piney Hill is the place for you! Hank and Wiley will make you feel right at home!

This was a special escape for me and my husband after having our 3rd child. It was a place where we had the best of both worlds: a relaxed atmosphere as if we had stepped back in time to a rural landscape under the stars and all the amenities of modern live (a hot tub and breakfast delivered to us). Hank and Wiley were so friendly - almost as if we had met them previously and known them for years. The surrounding land is just gorgeous and we enjoyed hiking for 2 days.

I visted Piney Hill on the weekend of November 19th and words cannot express!! But if I had to come up with a few....welcoming, relaxing, warm, and cozy would do the trick. Hank and Wiley are just the best. You never felt like they were over top of you but they were never more than a second away whenever you needed something. They were just wonderful. Not to mention the breakfast....um, um, um. The few times we did tear ourselves away from the cottage, we were able to find the best sites and restaruants, thanks to our gracious hosts. The view, the hot tub, the fireplace in the room - what more can you ask for in a local getaway! We'll definitley return.

We had a wonderful stay at Piney Hill. Wiley and Hank were welcoming and accommodating from the first email contact, through guiding us there through the dark foggy night, and having printed directions waiting to our restaurant (they made the reservations) and our next destination. The guys had the towels waiting for the hot tub, and made sure every comfort was provided. They also asked about and accommodated dietary restrictions creatively! There is an art to hosting at a B&B - how to be friendly and welcoming while still providing guests privacy and their own space. Hank and Wiley have mastered this. The setting of the house and the renovations they have done make it an ideal spot. We look forward to a return visit!
