We were in Luray to attend a wedding. The South Court Street Inn was listed as one of a number venues for staying the night. We loved the beauty of the Inn and Adelheid's hospitality. The Inn really is lovely. The living room and the sun room are inviting for reading and conversation. The bed was very comfortable for sleeping and the room was bright and warm. We enjoyed the snacks left for us and the chocolate that greeted us. We shared a glass of wine and ate breakfast with the other guests and really liked the people we met. Our stay at the Inn contributed to a really lovely wedding weekend.

We wanted a low key romantic getaway for Valentine's weekend and selected South Court Inn because of its many positive reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor. At the time, we were doing a month-long "vegan health challenge" that required us to eliminate dairy and meat (i.e. "the good stuff") from our diets. After we made the reservation, we spoke with Mike who reassured us that he and Adelheid would be prepared to accommodate our dietary restrictions.

When one of last winter's storms dumped several inches of snow on the area, Mike and Adelheid were kind enough to allow us to reschedule our visit. We selected a date a month later in early March.

When the day for our staycation finally arrived, we drove out to Luray and easily found South Court Inn tucked away on a quiet street in a residential neighborhood that features stately homes and sprawling lawns. The Inn is very clean and comfortable and guests are encouraged to take advantage of the reading/video libraries, games, sitting areas and delicious snacks.

We stayed in the Cottage which offered a great deal of privacy. There is a small refrigerator and a microwave and enough glasses and flatware to be mostly self-sufficient. The decor is comfortable and homey. The Cottage also features a large (2 person?) jacuzzi tub. It should be mentioned that the tub is *technically* in the kitchen. We found this very odd at first, but developed an appreciation for its location once we realized that it made access to the kitchen's wine and chocolates much easier. The Cottage could comfortably sleep 4-5 people. There is a bed (upstairs) as well as a trundle and a medium sized couch on the main level.

There is plenty to do in Luray if you like the outdoors. We took a drive along Skyline and enjoyed the hiking trails (Rose River Falls) and scenic lookouts. We toured the caverns and explored Main Street.

The best part of the weekend (aside from each other's company) was Adelheid's cooking. In all of our planning, we forgot to tell her that we no longer had any dietary restrictions. As a result, Adelheid had planned a vegan menu (complete with vegan cookies in the coffee den). We felt bad for causing so much extra work, but we thoroughly enjoyed the cookies and vegan breakfast (rolled oats with almond(?) milk, chia seed, dried cherries, macadamia(?) nuts and cinnamon. It was delicious. We also sampled some of the non-vegan fare and will forever testify that Adelheid's scones are the best in the world.

We enjoyed two nights at South Court Inn. On the second morning, we spent some time talking with Mike and Adelheid and encourage all future guests to do the same. They are very kind and it was great to learn more about their plans for the Inn. Both of them work very hard to keep the beds turned down and the table full of wonderful things. We had a fantastic time and we hope to return very soon.

We stayed 2 nights at South Court Inn and loved it! First of all, Adelheid and Mike are very kind and attentive and make you feel really at home. We also really enjoyed meeting there daughter, Anika (sp?)- she was lovely and a delight to talk with and gave us a tour of the garden and beautiful property.

If a good breakfast is important to you when you travel- you will not be disappointed. The breakfasts here were amazing!! The first course was a blueberry scone and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best scone I have ever had in my life! (I love scones and yes, she was kind enough to give me the recipe as well as tips on how to prep the dough)--after fresh fruit and scones came the hot, main course. The dining room is grand with a beautiful table and place settings, fresh flowers, and plenty of hot coffee. And, if you are a coffee drinker- a tray with hot coffee is left outside your room before breakfast. We did not need to eat lunch after this filling breakfast- and if we did get a little hungry later in afternoon or after dinner, there were plenty of available snacks in our room and in the sunroom/ indoor porch. If you are as lucky as we were you will get to enjoy some of Adelheid's home-made cookies :)
We stayed in the room downstairs with a king size bed where I had the best nights sleep that I have had in a long time. I am not really a good sleeper and usually don't sleep well when we travel. This bed was actually more comfortable than my own bed at home. The room itself was spacious and there was a little mini-fridge also. My favorite room in the common area of the house was the sun room. Lots of comfy furniture and a good place to curl up with a book and a few cookies :)

We stayed here one night before heading to Sperryville for a wedding. It was the perfect quiet retreat to help us prepare for the busy-ness of my best friend's wedding. The Ruby room has a great two person jacuzzi which we enjoyed, the bed is draped with cloth, making it very cozy and romantic. The sheets were the softest I've ever slept on. We enjoyed walking around the yard and checking out the garden that contributed some of the ingredients for our delicious breakfast. Location is perfect, close to the main street, and easy to get to the Wisteria winery, the closest to the town.

The South Court Inn takes you back in time and to another place that is such a relaxing break from the stresses of everyday life. The high ceilings and tastefully historic decor characterize this B&B's spacious and charming feel. The innkeepers are especially hospitable and accommodating, even taking into consideration special dietary needs, while maintaining the absolutely delicious standards for breakfast foods as well as pastries made a available throughout the day. The reasonably priced package deals that include tickets to the caverns, in room massage, wine, chocolate covered strawberries, roses and more, are certainly worth considering if a pampering getaway is the goal.
