How many times have we been disappointed when we book a hotel online that we had not stayed at before and upon arriving we are so disappointed.

This is definitely not the case with the Cascade Inn in Sitka owned and operated by Karen and Mike Keating.
First of all Karen was so considerate of our needs that upon arrival at the hotel she made sure our room was comfortable for us. The room was very large and very clean with a large balcony. The water pressure was awesome for the shower, and the bathroom was exceptionally clean.
The view of the bay and ocean from the balcony was beautiful as we watched the Sun rises and Sunsets.
Karen made homemade cookies and brought them to our room, as this was during the Christmas Holiday period.
Mike and I hit if off right away.
If you want to go to Sitka, please do yourself a favor and make your reservations at the Cascade Inn. You will not be disappointed as they also have a gas station and a nice little convenience store.

Room Tip: The only tip I can give you is just to book your hotel at the Cascade Inn as all the rooms have beau...

The property is waterfront - right on the water and the views are wonderful. However, we reserved and received written confirmation that we had a king room. When we arrived, however, we were given a full size bed and told sorry, she gave the (one and only) king room to someone else. The price was the same.
The owners also run a fishing charter business. There are vouchers provided to charter customers for restaurants and taxis and a very nice buffet in the evening which we were told was for their charter customers. However, they did invite us to the buffet - it was very good. Definitely, to us, it felt like guests who charter fishing trips with the owners appeared to be the priority for the hotel also.

We got off the ferry with our motorcycle and stopped at Cascade Inn for a room - ended up staying 2 nights. Every room has a private balcony over the water with chairs. We saw whales and otters and could watch the fishing boats pass right from our balcony. The room was very clean, and had a flat screen tv with cable. Coffee, tea were provided. Laundry room downstairs was available after 4 pm. We could walk to the grocery store from the inn, taking a path through a little park. Karen, the owner, was very accommodating and gave us a late check out. I would definitely return again!

I travel to Sitka a lot, and this is my place of choice to stay. Clean, comfortable and right on the water. Karen and Mike are terrific hosts.

Room Tip: Kitchenette rooms are more spacious and worth the extra cost.

I am an Alaskan who travels to Sitka several times a year on business. This is my favorite place to stay. The roms are pleasant, fluffy while towels and lots of hot water in the shower. Each room has its own private balcony right over the ocean. Spectacular view, of sea, surf, birds and snow covered mountains. The owners are pleasant and helpful. As I generally stay here off season, I don't have any experience staying her when they are full. I recommend the Cascade if you are looking for a quiet place after a hectic day.

The rooms are nice, clean and have everything you need. There is a grocery store nearby and a public bus stop which can take you downtown and/or to the ferry terminal: http://publictransit.sitkatribe.org/
We didn´t really feel the fishermen would be particularly noisy, as other reviewers did. We always had a good sleep.
We actually did not see the owners, we were not fishing and I guess they are always leaving soon with their fishing guests. So in this aspect it was a bit anonymous (we spoke only to the housekeeper), but didn´t really mind. And the views from the balcony are really nice, apparently it is the only waterfront hotel in Sitka.

We went there strictly to fish, so we weren't to disappointed with the accommodations. Your Host Karen is a total sweetheart, and Mike (fishing Nazi) is really rough around the edges especially on the water. Safety, Fish & Fun in that order was preached to us but we always to remind him of that last one on our 3rd day. Still 80 lbs of fillet is not bad. As for the inn, at best it rates as a 59.00 Motel 6, they keep it clean and the walls are thin. Your on property with a store and a gas station. Which could come in handy since your 5 miles from anywhere and everything. Taxis are $10 not matter where you go. The views from the patios are to die for and you almost forget the 70's motif when you go back in your room. Bottom-line, I'm going back this year but staying somewhere else, my wife wouldn't really like the rooms of that I'm certain.
