Fortunately, I read the Tripadvisor reviews before I booked here, so I asked for a room away from the noisy bar. We were on the 4th floor at the opposite end of the hotel from said bar, so we didn't hear any noise from it. Room 404 was quiet and had a view of the water. Someone said in a previous review that the rooms are like budget motel rooms, and that is exactly right, and the price for the room is quite high (almost $200 a night). It isn't a bad place to stay, close to everything downtown and shuttle service to and from the airport, but we had spent two days in a B&B that was terrific, so it certainly didn't compare to that. Basic, budget accommodations at a premium price. The people at the front desk were helpful and polite, and the choices are limited in Sitka, so if you decide to stay in a hotel, this is probably as good as anything.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor away from the noisy bar.

views on harbor side only good on 3rd and 4th floors. All views are of parking lots/roof/vents.. Loud bar open late on harbor side. Lots of screaming/laughing in parking area after bar closes. Usually lasts until 2:00am. People there to fish are up at 4:30am to get ready and walls/floors are very thin. Lots of showering/dressing noises, Sitka likes their town clean so street cleaners make rounds every other day between 4:00am and 6:30am. They are incredibly noisy as they circle parking lots over and over. All of Sitka's larger hotels are subject to this noise. When you drag yourself down to breakfast needing coffee after a haggard nght, don't expect much. They frequently run out of coffee, juice, pastry. Most days they had only cheerios and rice chex. I averaged three hours of sleep at night during my stay. Hotel charges were excessive -over $200.00 per night for a single room. Had the feel of a Super8 hotel. I could not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: harbor side on 3rd/ 4th floor -AND BRING EARPLUGS

I recently stayed here for business. The goods: Decent customer service, room was clean, location is great, free airport shuttle. However, the room was small and cramped. It was stuffy. If you are on the backside of the hotel the bar noise can be a bit much - especially on a weekend night. You could hear noise from other rooms. The bedding was not so nice - icky old-style bedspreads that slid off the velour blanket. They did have free internet and breakfast. Overall, a typical budget hotel at way over the price.

I had booked at a fishing Lodge for a 3 day package and they booked me in this hotel for a two night stay before the fishing days as they said they had no room. It cost $150/night. here. the location was great and off the main street so i think it probably was quieter (but very close to it)

If this hotel was in the middle of Peoria, Illinois or some farm land it would have cost about $59/night. Since it was in the middle of Sitka and right by the water and downtown it was $150/night. Apparently, you could book and get a cheaper rate on some on-line website link. (expedia? not sure which one)

Since Alaska's tourist season is short, they have to make the money while they can. Can't fault them for that.

The room was decent. and clean. Behind the bed by the wall wasn't (i dropped something and had to look there)

Shampoo and Conditioner were not good quality.

The bed was very comfortable; like a memory foam I think. It had a nice velour blanket under the bedspread.

Bedspread: I hate that hotels still use the old fashioned quilted bed spreads as I don't want to think of all the possible germs on a bedspread i'm sure doesn't get changed between guests. I prefer they have blankets that are washed in between guests; not some dry cleaned bed spread that you know doesn't get dry cleaned in between guests (I asked the maid and she said they don't dry clean these for each new arrival of a new guest)

They have free lobby internet service.

They have free breakfast. It didn't work for me as it is all flour and sugar products and yogurt with sugar. Instant oatmeal doesn't work for me either.

The staff is nice and friendly. (only one unfriendly older heavy set woman on staff i encountered. Everyone else was very nice) coffee and tea in lobby. 4 out of the 5 times I went to use it, it was cold or stale. No big deal; nice coffee in the room. I told them and they did say they would brew more which was nice of them.

Refrigerator in the room; good for leftovers and cream for coffee as they have that junk powder stuff to put in coffee.

No exercise facilites. i went to the Sheldon Jackson pool to swim as after I was told about Blatchely school having a pool I could use and I walked there and that pool was closed.

If there were more choices at better prices i wouldn't stay here again; but right now they and the Westmark have a hotel/motel monopoly!

Spent a night in Sitka, after our day ferry from Juneau. Beautiful corner room, with a view of the harbor and bridge, with eagles and seals all around. Clean room, big beds, all amenities, great friendly service, nice continental breakfast, and two lobby computers for guests. Easy to walk around Sitka and to the National Historic Park, easy driving to the ferry terminal, good parking lot, and highly recommended.

This was where we ended our 9 night trip through four Inside Passage towns. And of our other three sleeping quarters this was the most relaxing, had the best service and friendliest staff, the best breakfast experience of all the rest ... although once again FRUIT in Alaska seems fairly sparse. Other than a variety of fruit juices, they could only muster apples and pears the first of three mornings, and only apples on the second and third mornings. But if you're happy with starchy and sugary foods, you'll be right. The room was spacious compared to our others, solid floors and plenty of surfaces. And we had an amazing view of the waterfront. The free WiFi had three signals to choose from and it was strong and steady over the three-night stay. We were blogging so needed a reliable signal. The television was actually functional and we didn't need a 30 minute lesson to navigate. And they have a shuttle cargo van to get you to and from the airport.
