Owner description: Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center has become Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital and educational center, as well as one of the state's premier visitor attractions. Each year, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to 100-200 injured bald eagles and other birds. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and Classroom Presentations around the country. The Alaska Raptor Center's 17-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest, a temperate coastal rainforest, and the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska, and features award-winning natural habitats for our 19 Raptors-in-Residence.

“Review of Native Alaska Birds”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

The review of the space for birds to regain flight was the most interesting. It's good to know that someone is there to rehabilitate birds who are suffering. Staff made disparaging remarks about hunters. Some of the greatest animal rights activists we know are also subsistence hunters. Alaska is a state that relies on subsistence hunting. It's best to not bring preconceived ideas about hunting to the Great Land.

Reviewed 30 June 2014

The RAPTOR CENTER, is a place like none-other... you will see animals close, you only see on TV,(IF THERE at ALL..) the folks that run the CENTER, and some of the most incredible caring people, you'll ever meet. Its the kind of place, that when you leave, you have a total feeling of AWE of Nature and her beauty...if you go..( AND IF YOUR THERE...you REALLY SHOULD...try to see one of the SHOWS they have daily, and see UPCLOSE...natures beauty... you'll have stories to tell, till the day you leave this earth..it is nothing short of breath taking to see the EAGLES, and other birds, that if your lucky enough, you'll get a chance to "touch", and or pet....a true life-long memory...GO, and take your time, and ENJOY..!!!!!

“Beautiful Birds and Beautiful Spot”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Good presentation about the various birds that are taken care of at the center. We were able to be up close to several eagles, owls, hawks, etc. A very worthwhile stop in the Sitka area.

“Raptor Rehab!”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

This is a beautiful facility dedicated to the cause of rescuing and attempting to rehab and release eagles and other raptors. Many other owls and other large birds on the property. Guides are available to give you information on the background of the various birds in residence and their current prognosis. Some will be able to be released back into the wild, others will be permanent residents. Fascinating place! Highly recommend - and my children loved it.

“amazing to see”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We visited the Raptor Center in Sitka and saw how they rehabilitate raptors. The human interaction is minimized to try and release these great birds back into the wild. The ones who can never be released become teachers. Amazing place, great work. Thank you.
