Owner description: Growing from a backyard, volunteer-run operation, the Alaska Raptor Center has become Alaska's foremost bald eagle hospital and educational center, as well as one of the state's premier visitor attractions. Each year, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to 100-200 injured bald eagles and other birds. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and Classroom Presentations around the country. The Alaska Raptor Center's 17-acre campus borders the Tongass National Forest, a temperate coastal rainforest, and the Indian River in Sitka, Alaska, and features award-winning natural habitats for our 19 Raptors-in-Residence.

We enjoyed gaining knowledge about the process of rehabilitating the eagles and hawks(along with others). The facility is mainly supported by the admission price($12).

His was a great place to learn more about Raptors and to see birds up close that on may not get an opportunity in nature. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.

This was one of the most interesting places we visited in a July cruise to Alaska. Seeing bald eagles up close is a thrill! The Raptor Center is doing wonderful work caring for injured wild birds and returning them to their natural environment. Those that can't be fixed get a lifetime home at the center with kind people caring for them. Really cool place!

Thankfully there are people in this world who volunteer their time in areas they are passionate about. Rescuing and rehabbing eagles, owls, etc., is the work of this center. Admission is a little pricey, but not when you realize the good work that is done. If you have a toursaver coupon book for Alaska, there's a bo/go coupon for this.

Focused on rescue, rehab, and release, the Raptor Center does a terrific job of educating adults and children about raptors. You can get up close and personal with Bald Eagles, Owls, and Hawks in their native habitats while they rehab prior to release. Sitka is a super town to visit and the Raptor Center is its number one draw.
