We ate dinner twice at the Raven (likely better known as the Westmark hotel) restaurant. First of all, Sitka is weak in dinner choices with plenty of places featuring burgers and deep fat fried fish. We all must also recognize that there is major seasonal factor in the dining demand with the need for a huge increase in waitstaff in summer. The Raven has a fine dining menu with local fish. The first night was a 5 star experience, and I could not understand the tone of other reviews. The waitress, Andra, was very experienced, explaining the menu and specials to us and bringing well prepared cocktails. We ordered a bottle of white wine and she brought frozen glasses for the wine. Each course was brought with perfect timing. The salad, chowder, oysters and fish entrees were well prepared and well presented. I do agree that the chowder is a little less than world famous. The next night Andra was not working and our service became a nightmare. We did not seem to have one specific person assigned to us. No chilled glasses, orders in error and salad, appetizer and main coming out at the same time. The evening was tipped off with an error on the bill. This time I give it 2 stars. The food was still well prepared, even though it was amateur hour in the waitstaff. I average those to a 3, since there is an obvious management problem. I still recommend the Raven, since Ludvig's, everybody's favorite requires at least a day advanced reservation. The food is good, just be prepared for a possible fiasco in service. Note to management: give your temporary staff some training, they are eager to learn.

First meal in Alaska, after a long trip from east coast. Earlier arrivals had eaten here the night before and had a good experience so a bunch of us had a late lunch. Nice outside seating but rain started so moved inside to the bar area. Service was fine, Alaska beer was great, I had one of the best Cobb salads I've had with black cod instead of the usual chicken. It was huge too. Prices reasonable especially for Alaska.

Our group of 5 had to wait almost 10 minutes to be seated even though there were numerous empty tables, then it took another 20 minutes to get our first drink and that was only because one of us went to the bar to order the round. Another 20 minutes and we got menus, and another 25 before our appetizers and a second round of drinks came. Then it went downhill. The scallops were cold and obviously frozen, the bacon-wrapped scallops were skate, not scallops, and the shrimp/crab cocktails were (maybe) crab chopped so fine you couldn't tell what it was mixed with tiny canned shrimp topped with imported, not local, shrimp that had not even been deveined. Wow. Went through the whole wait staff, never was sure who was supposed to be serving us.

We had breakfast here the 2 mornings we were there; both times were very good. Food selection is pretty ordinary -- except for the specialty potatoes -- but very good. Service is fine; most of the tables have a view to the street, so people watching is fun. Like the hotel, the room is a bit worn down, but hey, it's not bad. Outside seating is lovely.Definitely recommend it for breakfast.

This restaurant is everything that you would expect from the Westmark. The staff are extremely attentive, and the food is very, very good. If you're a terrestrial carnivore, you might not find much to eat here (aside from the obligatory steaks); however, if your seafood lover you will find a lot of local offerings on the menu. I left feeling replete - satisfied but not lethargic. I would definitely eat here again.
