“A hidden gem”

Marine Corps League NE Detachment Museum
Reviewed 27 February 2013

A must see if visiting the Scranton area. Amazing dioramas, a collection of artifacts dating to the beginning of the Marine Corps. Annual events such as St. Patrick's Day after the parade Ham & Cabbage, spaghetti dinner, venison dinner and the Father and Son Breakfast held annually on Father's Day, a moving Flag Retirement Ceremony in June, and many more
The bar is open Fridays and the hall is available for rental for private functions. The grounds are big and beautiful nestled in a wooded setting with plenty of parking.

We love this place: new and old Marines gather here to exchange stories, build community, share a drink and build a very interesting museum on the history of the Marine Corps.
I learned about the story of local WWII hero Gino Merli (the town of Peckville, PA named a street after him).

When we left, I looked at the building and lo, it's WPA built (1936 or 1937).
