“Great hiking opportunities”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

All the way up to the peaks or in the valley around Flagstaff there are ample trails from very easy to challenging. Thru piñon pines or ponderosas, it's all beautiful.

“Free camping”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

The forest roads have camping areas that are considered dry camping (no water restrooms etc) but beautiful and can stay for 14 days with fire pits and fantastic views of mountains elk and trees.

“Sorry we didn't have more time to explore.”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We drove through this from the Grand Canyon down to Sedona. Beautifully wooded with lots of dirt roads leading from the main road.
Our two highlights were the Lava River Cave....if you want to do this you will need to look it up on the map ahead of time. It is not marked from the main road (at least not from the direction we came from), but once you get there you will realise it is a popular site and the car park is likely to be quite full. The other highlight was a chance sighting of a bear a few hundred yards from the main road. This was certainly one of our highlights of the USA..no bears in London!

“Beautiful”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

We are Traveling on a Harley and it was a beautiful ride with plenty to see. The roads were in better condition than some of the major highways we have been on. Larger than we expected. A great day ride for anyone.

“Very Remote...Pretty Scenery”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

This forest covers a large area. We drove it from Sedona towards the Flagstaff and north to the Grand Canyon. The scenery is very pretty in many places. Come off the US17 as there are many secondary highways to travel through the forest for slower paced travel. Remote in places but worth the time to slow down and view the area.
