“Perfect for our family of four, and our fur baby too!”
Reviewed 2 January 2011

We were very pleasantly surprised by the service, cleanliness and amenities of this pet friendly hotel. Any other hotels we've stayed in that were pet friendly are normally not as clean and it's something that you just sometimes have to accept with pet friendly places. There were plenty of other animals around but they were by no means "everywhere" as some of the other reviewers stated.

We stayed over New Years and it was very busy. The room was very clean and quiet, on the 4th floor and on the opposite side from the main road - we heard no noise inside the room, except for the occasional siren outside.

As others have mentioned, the King suite layout was a bit strange, but a room for sleeping in and hanging out watching TV was all we really needed and did not spend an awful lot of time in there. The fridge and microwave were very useful and we used them often. The shower produced copious hot water and the heat system was great - although, interestingly it produced frost on the inside part of the unit both nights. We eventually put a towel over it just so we didn't actually bump into the cold while walking by it!

Breakfast was adequate, although nothing special, but for being included in the room rate we could not complain and everyone in our family left the breakfast room satiated. The first day we went for breakfast late and it was extremely crowded, but the following morning we were early and there was plenty of room. They had apples, bananas, cereal, hard boiled eggs, muffins, some sort of coffee cake, bagels, English muffins, egg and sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, and make your own waffles. PLus juice, tea and coffee. So plenty of choices.

They discounted our price significantly for being a government employee (almost half!) which we appreciated and this will encourage us to return next time. The dog "sanitation fee" was a bit high at $50, but overall we decided it was worth it for the amenities they offered - one being an indoor heated pool which was great after being outside in the cold and snow all day!

There is a nice forest area directly behind the hotel and it was a great place to take the sled and the dog out for a walk.

Hotel is centrally located - you can walk to Wal-Mart and a grocery store, as well as a few other stores and plenty of restaurants a short drive away (and some will deliver to the hotel).

Overall we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return next time we are in Flagstaff.

Friendly and helpful staff. Took care of us during a busy holiday week when Snowbowl had just opened and the town was packed. Maintenance guy and one of the guys at breakfast were seriously two of the hardest working guys I ever saw at a hotel--I actually waited around to tip them separately because I was so impressed at how much they hustled. Had hot water issue one night in shower--guy there in 5 minutes. Asked for pool to be warmed up--again, 5 minutes. Breakfast did get crowded but what do you expect? It's included in the price and a holiday week when everyone is traveling with families. Food was fine--not fancy but plenty of options, and you can take some snacks for the day. Pool and workout room were plain, but sufficient and clean. Laundry in hotel (didn't use, but good to have). Low point was the internet--very slow, almost unusable. In their defense the hotel was 100% booked, and with a lot of young people who were probably using the internet a lot, but they need to improve. Front desk has snacks, beer, pop and toiletries, and the Wal Mart is next door (if you forget underwear and PJ's for your kids like we did). All in all, some things could have been a little better but for the awesome price and last minute booking, it was great. Would absolutely stay here again.

My husband and I were traveling through AZ and NV the week of Thanksgiving with our small dog. We stopped in Flagstaff one night and wanted to do an all day hike at the Grand Canyon the next day. When we checked in, I asked at the front desk if they knew of any pet sitters that would be willing to watch our dog the next day (neither Petco or Petsmart have boarding/day care facilities in Flagstaff). I was given a business card for Kelly & Lita's Pet Sitting (www.kellylitapetsit.com) and called Kelly right away. She came to our hotel room that night to meet us and our dog! The next morning, she came by before 8am to pick the dog up and spent the entire day with him! She took him to her house to play with her dogs and then brought him back to our hotel that night when we returned from our long day of hiking! Kelly is absolutely amazing and I would trust her with my pet any day! It is so nice to be able to find great service and an unexpected perk at the last minute while away on vacation. Thank you Springhill Suites for the amazing recommedation!!

Also, the hotel is clean and simple with a very nice hot breakfast bar before you head out for a day of outdoor activity!

My biggest issue with this hotel was the room layout and design.

I suppose you could call it a "suite" since it had a somewhat separate seating area, but even that designation is questionable to me. I did know this going in, but assumed that the half wall separating the seating area from the beds was a solid wall. Unfortunately, it was not. It was a frosted glass. So, we put the kids to bed at a reasonable time, hoping we would be able to sit in the seating area with a small light on and read or watch tv. The light from the seating area caused the frosted glass window to almost glow from the opposite side (where the beds were) dissipating the light and significantly brightening up the room.

In addition, the tv did not swivel enough to be able to comfortably watch it from the seating area without disturbing those in bed.

Overall, this hotel was little better than a single room and since we paid more assuming we would get value from the "suite", we were disappointed.

If you are planning to all go to bed at the same time and are not bothered by lights coming on at night, it is a nice hotel, but nothing spectacular. If you're looking for a suite, keep looking.

We stayed here with our family of 5 and have to say that we won't stay at this hotel again. Although the staff was wonderful, the hotel needs improvement. The check-in procedure was easy and smooth but then when we stepped into the elevator and saw the dirty, stained rug, we started to question our decision to stay here. The room itself was nice but the design is bizarre. We had a 2 queen suite which had no dresser or any type of drawers for storing our clothes. They stayed in the suitcase for the duration of our stay. The bathroom door has frosted glass which does not adequately filter out light. So, when someone went to the bathroom at night - the light shone out on everyone. Also - the whole bathroom is open which was also an odd design.

The pull-out bed extended underneath the desk so there was only one way in and out. Again, this was somewhat of an inconvenience but I associate it with poor design. The room that are near the main road can get a little loud at night with traffic and sirens (periodically), so I would recommend getting a room on the opposite side from the road.

Breakfast was absolutely horrible! The breakfast items were along one wall and the yogurt and milk were in small fridges located down below. This proved to be a challenge for older people staying at the hotel. There were lines to get to the food as it was along the one wall. The sausage was undercooked and the eggs had no taste. Marriott really needs to study the competition (read: Holiday Inn Express) to learn how to offer a good breakfast.

Lastly, the internet connection was pretty slow so I would not recommend this hotel for business travelers needing a fast connection.
