“Can't cook”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

Nice location and ambiance. Staff was friendly. Bread was tasty with three different butters to try with it. Unfortunately the 8 oz Hanger steak that I ordered medium well came to the table extremely well done. Not a spot of pink to be found anywhere. If they learn how to cook it might be a nice place until then..avoid.

“not what its cracked up to be”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

Told by many that this was the place to go as a famous chef out of phx cooks there. the portions were tiny, steak was over cooked and the prices were way high. I did only go once so I will try it again one day but if I had to send people to places to eat this would not be one of them

“Great Dining Find in Flagstaff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

We made reservations at this restaurant because it was within walking distance of our hotel. It was not one of the restaurants I had heard about before - we live in Prescott about two hours away - and some people drive to Flagstaff to celebrate special events. I was really pleased with the ambience (fireplace seating in the lounge) and booths/tables in the elegant, open-designed dining room. The wait-staff was very attentive but not overly so. They made accurate suggestions about food and drinks. We enjoyed a pre-dinner cocktail/beer in the lounge with a good selection of wines/beers/bar-snacks at reduced pricing during happy hour (4-6PM). My husband and I shared a wedge salad (excellent w/pickled onions garnish). Our dinner entrees were the porterhouse chop and half rack of the 1899 BBQ ribs - all excellent. I would also recommend a glass of their 1448 Runquist red wine.
Note: This restaurant is on the campus of NAU and is named after the founding year of the institution. From the website: "...The restaurant is a valuable resource for NAU's Hotel and Restaurant program, enabling these students to learn in a real-world setting, all while the restaurant remains a full-service, independent eatery, separate from NAU's other retail outlets..."

“Great Steaks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

Have eaten in most, if not all, of the major steakhouse chains and independents in the USA. This goes to the top of my list. Ribeye was as tender and flavorable as a piece of beef can get. Great marbling and texture. Perfectly cooked. Accompaniements of creamed spinach and baked potato(ok...cooking a baked potato ain't all that hard)were first rate. Would give them very high marks for overall quality and service. Definitely will return.

“Good restaurant for also being a teaching tool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2014

This is the restaurant on the NAU campus where HRM students work to gain experience. It is also directly across from the Drury Inn. The teaching side of things can come through in some ways. We went for Mother's Day brunch. We were chased away from the front door by an inexperienced person and out into the snow (yes, snow in Flagstaff in May). We were then invited back in by a manager-type. We were seated and had an inexperienced server who didn't know if I could tip if using a gift card given to us. On the other hand, we had a more experienced server/manager come by and bring my kids pictures to color. The food was good - the prime rib was smoked, which came through really well. All other buffet staples - eggs, bacon, salmon, waffles, desserts, etc. The price for the buffet, especially on a holiday, was reasonable. I will be back again, hopefully for a regular sit-down meal as they tend to do that better.
