“Not a good Motel 6”
Reviewed 28 May 2008

A friend and I booked this motel for one night on our way to Colorado. I've stayed in Motel 6's many times mostly because of the reasonable rates. I'm OK with the pared down amenities and the bare bone rooms. However, this Motel 6 was not OK. The bathroom being the main problem. The bathtub had not been cleaned, there was apparent mildew on the ceiling and around the tub, a towel had dark soiled marks on it. The location is not in the best interest for someone expecting to get a good nights sleep. The trains go by all night and blow the whistle each time. To give the hotel credit...after complaining they gave us a free night certificate which we used in Santa Fe NM, which was a better experience. The room was small but had hardwood floors and an updated clean bathroom.

This hotel was the PITS. Horrible. The bathtub had not been cleaned and showed a black bath ring; there was mold on the ceilings and the towels were filthy with black stains - were not changed from the previous guests. The corridors and staircases were down right dirty. It was a very noisy hotel with trains coming by the whole night.
This motel reminded me of a third world country. Shame on Motel 6.
DO NOT STAY HERE.
We then drove to Santa Fe and had booked Motel 6 also. This hotel was also not up to scratch with the trash in our room not having been cleared from the previous occupant. I have decided that Motel 6 has really gone done hill and there are many more reasonably priced hotels to enjoy e.g.
On the way back from Colorado and New Mexico we stayed in Days Inn Flagstaff and paid $10 more but had a good room, quiet, good free breakfast. Great price for value

  • Liked — abslutely nothing. This is a third world hotel

This hotel was a nightmare. We should have requested a new room but I was afraid it might be worse than the room we already had! There was mold and bacteria growing from floor to ceiling in the bathroom (I'm a microbiologist, I know!). We used flip flops in the shower and tried not to actually touch the shower curtain. The drain in the sink did not stay open. When my husband went to the front desk to tell them they handed him another room key to shove in the drain to keep it open! We ended up locked out of the room on our 2nd day for no apparent reason. We ended up taking 2 trips to the front desk before someone finally came to the room and opened the door manually (without an electronic key). This is the last thing you want to deal with at midnight after a day in the grand canyon. I've stayed in 1-star hotels before. I've never been this scared in my life.

  • Liked — Free wireless internet if you were close enough to the Ramada to get their signal!
  • Disliked — cleanliness

I stayed one night in this motel as many places were booked up because it was a busy time.

Even for a budget motel, I found this place a disappointment. It seemed like the front desk felt extremely put out by having to check me in and take my money. However, in a place like this you aren't really paying for service.

The main problems were cleanliness and noise. The area under the bed had seemingly never been hoovered as there was a lot of debris under it, and pulling the bed away from the wall, piles of dust and food (including things such as sunflower seeds) ran along the skirting board and also the top end of the mattress. On the landings, some bins were overflowing and some had rubbish strewn around them. The floors and steps were pretty dirty too.

In terms of location, the property is sandwiched between an interstate, a highway and a set of train tracks. Each is within a few hundred yards either side and all rooms also face onto the parking lot. The rooms have single glazed windows, so its pretty noisy - and the trains sound their horns often.

On the positive side, there were no bed bugs. There are plenty of other places to stay in the area so I'd recommend staying somewhere else.

This hotel was our first stop from Phoenix...stayed two nights

Staff was ok, but not friendly - was hard to get more than a one word answer! Pool was cold and VERY small..steam room took over 30 mins to WARM up...sauna was out of order. Room was just fine however, you will hear train horns all night long...probably the same at most hotels in Flagstaff. Breakfast was standard and sufficient.
Overall, was ok for the great price got by direct booking.

  • Liked — price
  • Disliked — amenities not what i expected -- small cold pool - broken sauna et
  • Tips/Secrets — try another hotel..but if price still great at this one...i'd stay here again

This place is was simply terrible. Our room was a non-smoking room, it had cigarette butts on the floor and in the bathroom. It didn't appear as though the room had been cleaned, just the bed made and the towels changed. The front desk staff/management were rude, when asked about moving to a clean, non-smoking room, they became defensive. The household staff seemed nice, but seemed hurried and overworked. Would not recommend this motel to anyone.... perhaps the Motel 6 down the street was better.
