My wife and I and our daughter stayed here for a week to get out of the heat in Phoenix. We chose this house over the others available in the area because it was closer to Flagstaff restaurants and stores and had a wonderful view. This unit is on the second level and there is one flight of stairs to climb, but we didn't mind that at all (who can't use a little exercise?!).
It was perfect! The location was a couple blocks from the University and within 2 miles of the downtown shopping/restaurant area. The view from the porch is amazing, includes the University area, Mount Humphries (tallest mountain in Arizona) and the surrounding beautiful scenery. You can even spot some of the telescope domes of Lowell Observatory on the hilltop across the valley. The hammock and swinging seats on the porch are heavenly, as pictured!
The owners, Josh and Mariah are some of the most interesting, well traveled, helpful and gracious hosts you could ever meet--and they live right next door should you need ANYTHING!
We loved having 4 large bedrooms surrounding the common area and kitchen. We invited other family to join us, but they had scheduling conflicts so weren't able to. Plenty of room to spread out and great Wifi connected us to the world and info on restaurants and other attractions.
We visited the Flagstaff Arboretum (educational and lots of interesting information on mountain plants and trees)--hint: Get well coated in bug repellent before going--there are lots of biting insects in all these plants in the summer time! We also had a wonderful evening (5pm-9:30pm) at the Lowell Observatory, a fascinating place to learn about the universe and look through numerous large telescopes available to the public.
Flagstaff itself is an interesting mix of University and arts/crafts. The downtown area has numerous restaurants, from the pretentious and expensive, to the very reasonable and unusual. We found Trip Advisor's AND Jason/Mariah's recommendations extremely helpful! We ate at several unique and hard to find restaurants were exceptional and reasonably priced.
All in all it was a wonderful experience in the cool pines! Temps were 55F-85F and we had a couple afternoons of light rain, which was really a treat for us. We definitely plan to be back and highly recommend this rental!
