“Interesting pueblo ruins just north of Flagstaff”
Review of Elden Pueblo

Elden Pueblo
Reviewed 20 May 2014

We were on Route 89 north of town and saw the sign for this place. It is an open area just off the west side of the road with ruins of a pueblo community from about 1100 to 1250 AD. There is no cost to tour and there is a very informative pamphlet describing 15 stops on the tour. It seems to be run as a joint effort of 7 agencies including colleges, museums, etc. This was a very pleasant surprise--a nice stop but I would not suggest going out of the way to see it.

Somehow we had missed these ruins when we visited five years ago. They are closer to Flagstaff than Wupatki. A surprise snow flurry started up when we arrived. However, the snow did not stick to the ground. That seemed odd for May, but what do we know as Californians! We enjoyed the self guided trail.

Wow, spend a day with the real pros and live your Indiana Jones fantasy! You can actually dig for artifacts (you can NOT keep what you find) and learn first hand the process of archeology. Great for kids and Parents, prepare to get a little dirty though.

these ruins are right outside of flagstaff with easy access and numbered trail guide that provides lots of information. The trail guide provides an easy self guided tour. These ruins are right off the main highway and are very easy to get to
