“Interesting hike for moderate level of effort”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

Not far out of Flagstaff and on the way to the Grand Canyon, this trail provides a couple hours of very interesting terrain where you can choose how much or how little effort you want to give it. The access to the trail from the parking lot is deceptive--flat and dusty-- almost boring. But once you reach the base of the mountain area the terrain changes quickly and you'll have to decide how much and how far you want to climb. I recommend hiking boots. This is a great place for some spectacular photos.

“Great walking hike, easy and worth it!”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

What a great ending to this trail. Much more of a walk than a hike. The geologic features at the end of the trail are amazing! If you're nimble you can climb up some of the cascading features and have a great view of the valley. Awesome echoes up here!

“Pleasant, Beautiful Hike”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

The Red Mountain Trail is a beautiful somewhat desert trail, It was about a 2 hour round trip easy, mostly level ground hike to/from the Red Mountain. A great place for a picnic and some good photo shots. Definitely a place of solitude as there were not very many people on the trail. Highly recommend if you are looking for a trail that is beautiful but not too strenuous.

“Beautiful day”

We had a nice hike on this trail. Our vacation plans had to be altered due to the closing of the National Parks. Search around for alternative things to do and this hike was nice.

“Easy But Pretty Darn Cool”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

The trail to Red Mountain is easy, quick and well maintained. To get to it, take I-17 north to Flagstaff. Follow the signs for US-180 then head north to milepost 247 (about 30 miles). Turn left (west) at the milepost & the follow dirt trail to the trailhead parking lot. The hike along the way is okay, but once the trail runs into the riverbed (usually dry), it gets really interesting. Almost like walking onto some sort of epic movie set. The obvious trail ends at the spires so we took our time to explore all over & climb right to the "amphitheater" wall. Not difficult to scramble to but does take some careful maneuvering. This is a really easy hike & definitely well worth it!
