We arrived, exhausted, around 12:30 in the afternoon to join up with an OARS group rafting down the Grand Canyon. OARS uses this facility to base their trips out of, Our reservations were made almost a year in advance before it became a Doubletree. We were told that our rooms were not ready and repeatedly told that check in was not until 4 pm. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and under staffed; repeatedly being interrupted by having to answer the phone. At the same time we watched many other guests get room assignments. So we went into the old town to have lunch and give the hotel some time to clean the rooms. We returned at 3pm and our rooms still weren't ready, yet we watched more guests get room assignments. Again we were reminded that check in wasn't until 4pm. So we crashed in the chairs in the lounge waiting. Did I mention that our ages run from 60 to 76? At 3:51 pm the staff finally did find rooms for us. Thank goodness. Once in our room we found that there were no glasses of any kind so we called the front desk and asked for a couple. They never showed up. Then at 7pm we met with the OARS group in one of the meeting rooms for an orientation. Unfortunately, Doubletree couldn't come up with any equipment to do the presentation so the OARS staff kind of had to wing it. The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel buffet for $15.00. It was HORRIBLE. cold eggs, cold french toast, unripe fruit. Just terrible. That breakfast was the icing on a qtherwise crummy experience. On the other hand the bed was really comfortable. My overall impression was that this hotel is very poorly managed.
