“Cheap, Convenient Location, Pet-Friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2012

My fiance and I stayed here now for a second time. Just up from Phoenix for a beat-the-heat weekend with our pup. When looking for a hotel, we just need one that is clean, good location, cheap (this was $75/night) and dog friendly. We are hardly in the room, so we don't need a fancy place.

This hotel is walking distance (about 15 min walk) to many bars, breweries and restaurants. There's a couple grocery stores just around the corner and a Walgreens. The location is very convenient. Management has been quite friendly to us and our dog. I will admit, it isn't the prettiest motel and the view from the windows leaves much to be desired, but there are no signs of bugs (I checked both times) and the linens/towels were clean. TVs work with decent number of channels and there's a mini fridge and microwave.

Definitely dated and no-frills, but we knew what to expect and didn't mind.

Room Tip: Try for a second floor room.

This hotel is close to NAU. We got a hotwire rate of $66 a night where it is rated as a 2 star hotel. It is a 1 star, if that. Drab and dreary decor, old bedspreads and curtains. The linens are old and the pillows are awful....flat and smelly. The carpet smelled and we questioned if all the towels were new or if some had just been folded up again. The white face cloths were a dingy grey. Had to open the window to have clean air come in. The room was clean but the material the maid has to work with is so old and in desperate need of a deep cleaning and replacement.
Breakfast is in the bland front room till 9am...coffee, tea, orange juice, old cereal and stale bread and muffins. We did not even try the food it looked so unappealing.
I have not stayed in a Howard Johnson's before and am okay with "economy" hotels but I would not recommend this hotel and I will not stay there again.

Everything was out of order...even the ice machine. Our room was at the end of a dark corridor and none of the exterior lights were on (unsafe.) Room was dirty, shower had hair in it (gross!) Not much to the continental breakfast. Guy at front desk wasn't very friendly.

Bed was terrible, air conditioner was noisy and didn't work well, room was not very clean, room not worth the price. The staff was friendly though.

Where do I start. When we arrived to check in the lady at the front desk came limping out barefoot, which was not a very welcoming first impression. After we checked in and went up to our room (expecting it to be newly renovated) the room was discusting to say the least. The floors carpet had black stains all over not to mention being on the top floor buckling in in some areas, wall paper that was torn up with paint slapped over it, spider webs in corners, cracks in the bathroom, and it was NOT a pleasant smell to walk into. We immediately went back to the front desk and asked for a refund which the manager refused.
We have contacted the Howard Johnson Corporate office to try and get a refund....we will see what happens.
Luckily the Quality Inn had two rooms left since the rest of Flagstaff was completely booked. I would recommend staying there over this DUMP any day.

Room Tip: Don't stay here at ALL!

Stayed there 07/08/12, booked through Expedia. I found the rooms very nice, the location was convenient to several places to eat, drink or both. Free WiFi, which is very important to me, and they had smoking rooms available. The hotel staff were friendly and professional. Continental Breakfast a little scimpy but did have plenty of O.J. and coffee though .Overall, I liked it.

Room Tip: I suppose if you want a smoking room, book early. If that doesn't apply to you, they're all...

After being on the road for 15 hours, my family and I checked in here last night at around 8:30 pm and were very disappointed with the overall quality of the property. It is billed as a "HoJo Inn", but is much more like a run-down roadside motel. The place was so bad that we decided to leave and find alternate accommodations. I thought I had booked a "mini suite with 3 double beds" which cost me $100, but instead was shown to a tiny dark room with the third bed in an adjoining windowless and ventless large closet . The manager refused to refund our money, but I called my credit card company and am disputing the charge. I will also be on the phone this morning to HoJo corporate this morning to let them know how disappointed I was. Luckily the Quality Inn down the road had vacancy and we were able to stay there for less money and a much nicer property.
