We stayed there for one night on our way to the Grand Canyon, and while the rooms were clean and comfortable we didn’t enjoy our stay there.
The reception staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. For example when we asked for help to find a place to eat (according to the receptionist the hotel’s restaurant was fully booked for that night), he gave us a printed paper with a list of about 40 restaurants, and when we asked for more specific recommendation, he just murmured that “all of them are good” .
The other thing that we didn’t like is that while the room and the buildings themselves were clean, the garbage cans in the parking lot were full, and garbage was scattered everywhere, and especially near the entrance of our building.

Dear Gils_tips -

Thank You for taking the time to review our hotel on TripAdvisor, we appreciate your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your experience with us was less than perfect. Little America takes pride in providing great service in a clean environment; we seemed to have missed the mark this time. Because of your comment, I have implemented better standards so our employees can provide more accurate information to guests. I can confidently say that our grounds team does a wonderful job of keeping the exterior of the hotel in top condition. Because of our busy season with guests in the month of December, keeping up on the garbage can be daunting. I have spoken with our Grounds Manager so he can see to it and plan better for busiest seasons. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to host you in the future.

Sincerely,

Little America Management

We cruised into Flagstaff about 10:30 p.m. without a hotel reservation, and this was the first place with rooms. No wonder, because it's absolutely huge. This is hardly an economy hotel, but what terrific rooms, especially if you're just a couple and need only one bed. Our room was gigantic, with a great king bed and pillows and another room just as large with a loveseat and chairs as well as a table and chairs. The bathroom was also enormous, with a huge oval tub with shower. The furnishings and pictures were very nice and very good quality, sort of an antique-type look as though your grandma had been hired as their facilities manager to do the decorating. Even the woodwork was great--like crown molding on the ceilings and a really nicely-done semi-partition between the bedroom and sitting area. The grounds are also absolutely spectacular and very large, and it also has a large pool and hot tub area. We saw the menu and decided not to eat there because of the price and also because we were in a hurry, but there are fast food places all over and this is also right next to a truck stop. It wasn't cheap, but if we ever go through Flagstaff again, this would absolutely be my choice for a hotel.

We've stayed at Little America twice now with our kids, both visits in December. Its been a relatively affordable, clean place for our family to go and stay for a weekend to let the kids play in the snow in Flagstaff. Its an older hotel and nothing special, but its a clean and family friendly place to sleep if thats what youre looking for! Just a few minutes away from downtown, Lowell observatory, and a short drive to the West Wing Snow play area.

We also travelled with greatrail over the christmas period on this first time tour. Attention to detail of xmas lights on trees in front of hotel magical, as was decor of lobby. The room set aside to accommodate us for dining was devoid of decoration, sense of festivity totally lacklustre, not even a table decoration. The two evening meals we had here, one on xmas eve the other xmas day were quite frankly disgusting. Gammon was served on xmas eve with squash too sweet by far and the gammon difficult to chew. The boiled turkey on xmas day was served with courgettes which ordinarily is classed as a summer vegitable in the uk, hard carrots, mashed potatoes and breadcrumbs with a coloured flavouring. This was covered in a glutinous gray gravy, totally unappetizing. Food and socialising are a great part of Christmas, hence why folk go on tours or move into hotels to enjoy their hospitality and hopefully get good service. We were let down here sadly, the one meal in the year where most people make a real effort . On a more positive note, our bedroom and outlook could not have been better and experience with staff was nothing but friendly and helpful.

Stayed here during our Great Rail Journeys tour. The hotel is lovely - as are the staff - great room and fabulous bar with good cocktail waitresses. We were very disappointed with our Christmas Eve meal which frankly, was diabolical!!It was a disgusting piece of grey meat purporting to be steak. I had to ask to ask for it to be cooked a little longer as I do not eat rare meat. The waitress took it off and was mightily grumpy. It was returned in the same state so I just left if - truly revolting! She said it might be difficult to serve up a well done steak! We were booked in for a Christmas Day dinner but after a sneak preview and feedback from fellow travellers on the trip - more of the same revolting food, so we gave it a miss. We are complaining to Journeys about the very poor food quality. Luckily there is a diner on the complex so ended up with Christmas burgers instead!

My wife and I have stayed in several different hotels in Flagstaff over the years. You either have to settle for some outdated shotty motel, or stay in a character-less corporate hotel that looks the same everywhere. But after staying one night at the Little America Hotel, we have a place we'll always come back to. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were very big and clean. Very delightful victorian-style interiors. The only knock on the place is that the room sort of smelled like a grandma... but not so much that it was a bother. For the price you are staying in a iddylic, beautiful hotel for the same or less than if you stayed in a generic Embassy Suites. We'll be back!

Our family recently stayed here for the second time. We stayed with another family who was taking advantage of the hotel's location for the North Pole Experience. Having already experienced that (not so great) NPX event, our family opted to just take advantage of the hotel grounds, with nearby sledding.

Both families had reserved our rooms nearly a year ahead of time, knowing it gets booked quickly due to the NPX. My friend had called a few weeks prior to our actual stay to ensure that our rooms were a) in Building 1, and b) close together, so the kids could enjoy visiting with one another.

When we arrived at the hotel to check in, the check in clerk (Raoul? a grumpy older gentleman) said our rooms were close together and nearby. However, the rooms were not close together or in a close building, and he said there were none available at this point. At this point, after a joking suggestion by me, our friend provided "financial incentive" to the clerk, two rooms next door to one another, in the closest building magically became available. Seriously?! In Flagstaff?

The kids and the adults all loved the activities onsite--namely the holiday light display throughout the resort grounds, and the horse-drawn carriage ride. The rooms are very dated, per usual, but are very clean and large. The kids got a kick out of the phone next to the toilet in the bathroom (ew! germs), as well as the mini refrigerator in the bathroom.

Once again, both families took advantage of the onsite restaurant to eat breakfast. The (younger lady) hostess was absolutely terrible--she was very grumpy and gave us attitude when we asked to sit together, and out of the bright sunlight. We offered to move the tables together ourselves but got a lot of eye rolling and huffing in response.

Since it was a Sunday, some of us chose to partake in the breakfast brunch/buffet. It was really good, and fresh-tasting. Our server (a young woman) was absolutely fantastic, and very accommodating. She more than made up for the hostess' behavior.

The gift shop was as fabulous as it was last year, and the kids all had a great time picking out a stuffed animal from their really large collection.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the first or second building. Otherwise, you'll have quite a hike to the lobb...

Thank you for taking the time to review our property on TripAdvisor, we appreciate your feedback. I am sorry to hear that we were unable to accommodate your request of adjacent rooms upon check in. We try to accommodate these request as best we can, but sometimes are unable to due to occupancy and existing guest reservations. Excepting any kind of “financial incentives” is definitely not part of our front desk check in guidelines. Please rest assured that I have discussed this matter with our front desk staff and rooms manager so that we make sure all staff are properly trained.

I would also like to apologize for our hostess attitude when your group visited our restaurant. I expect all service employees to be courteous and gracious with all guests and we seemed to have missed the mark this time. I am pleased to hear that there were aspects of your stay that truly reflect a Little America experience. We hope that you will give us another opportunity to host you in the future.

Sincerely,
Little America Management
