“Road trip”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

Since our weather and been so wet and dreary and an unseasonably long winter my friends and I decided to take a road trip. Our overnight stopped turned out to be in Medora, ND
We checked into the Rough Riders Hotel and were pleasantly surprised by the room.
Our breakfast the next morning was top rate. There seemed to be several unique shops
although we left before a good share of them were open.

Room Tip: We stayed in the newer part of the hotel, nice rooms

We stayed here during our visit to Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It was in the old-fashioned town of Medora and in walking distance to almost everything. The hotel itself was very grand and had very rich details. Our room was very nice, but I absolutely loved the bathroom! It had a walk-in shower that I would love to have in my own house. The room was a bit pricey and they left a teddy bear in our room that you could purchase. I had to put it away, because my children thought it was a free toy to play with. Overall, it was great place to stay!!!

Medora, North Dakota is a funny old-timey town just outside the Theodore Roosevelt National Park which is well worth a visit if only to see the herds of buffalo and the many prairie dog villages, not to mention the very beautiful North Dakota Badlands.

The Rough Rider Hotel which dates back to the 1880s, has recently undergone a rehab. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is efficient and eager to please. The restaurant, Theodore's, although rather over-priced for the area, is first rate.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the eight historic rooms in the old wing of the building.

This hotel, built in the 1880s, was renovated in 2009. We stayed in one of the original rooms, which was quite small and rather gloomy. It had a kingsized bed, an armoire, desk, desk chair and a bathroom with a huge shower. A flat screen TV was over the desk. The hotel is within walking distance of the visitor's center for Theodore Roosevelt National Park, but you will want to drive there anyway because you'll need a car to see the park. The hotel's website offers a free breakfast. This is a misrepresentation. We were there for a Friday night and there was no free breakfast on Saturday. We were told that the hotel puts some breakfast fixings in the lobby on weekdays (what they were was left very vague) , but on weekends, when the expensive hotel restaurant is open for breakfast, there is nothing available unless you pay for it. The breakfast was very good, however. The front desk service is very cheerful and pleasant.

Room Tip: If you get a room in the old part of the hotel, get one overlooking the street. The back rooms overl...

This hotel is the cutest place, it has a great 1900's feel to it. The entire hotel is based on Theodore Roosevelt's life, history, and times out here. The room was spacious and clean, bathroom is very modern, bed - no problem sleeping in this bed. The rooms have the cutest Teddy bear mascot, which can be purchased at the gift shop. There is a lovely sitting area with a fireplace and books galore if you would like to wind down. They have a restaurant on site, which this trip I was unable to try do to scheduling, but next time I definetly will.

Compared to other hotels in Medora, this hotel felt luxurious and extravagant. The rooms were spacious, very clean, and smartly decorated to fit the theme and feel of the town. The bathroom was modern with a really cool shower. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel is centrally located within walking distance to everything in town. This hotel's character and location are definitely worth the extra cost.

The hotel is done up like it was when it was built..early 1900 and every room has a write up of Theodore Roosevelt and his history, both around the area and his entire life. It is located it the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Very Beautiful.. and this was oct... lots of the shops were closed for the season. all of the servers in the restaurant have their country of origin under there name...
