Your meal is the name of the restaurant - "sample" bites! Everything is one or two bites Order the chef's tasting and you will get a 5-course meal and be absolutely full. With each course you receive 3 to 5 items - onion soup in a one-bite bread bowl, mini beef-on-weck, mini salad cup, etc. and you will enjoy an array of food. It's a fun place to go and very different. You won't be disappointed, I promise.

Our concern with the cost does not have anything to do with the sizes. We went completely aware of the tapas-like feel. However, the cost was so incredibly prohibitive - we couldn't believe it. The food didn't even taste that good. We never went back.

The Chef's Tasting is the way to go if you are visiting Sample for the first time. At first you see these little bite sized pieces of food and think how is this going to fill me up. Well by the end of the 6 course meal, you are pretty full. Add some drinks and your living like a king. I can't wait to go back and try the other "sample" dishes. This is a must try.

Summary: Sample is a refreshing change from the limited selection on Allen Street. It is a little pricey, but the atmosphere is fun, unique, and the staff is always friendly. It is definitely worth stopping in when you have a few extra dollars and want a break from the standard bar fare. I'm a regular and frequently bring out-of-town visitors here.

Drinks: The martinis are pricey, but well worth it, since they are meant for sipping and tend to last a while. Chai is my favorite, but the sake & cucumber is also worth a go. Honey lavender is their "award-winning drink" but it's hit-or-miss depending on who makes it. However, like the entire place, it's nice that they are always trying to evolve.

Food: The menu changes on occasion, but the variety is accommodating for many palates. The duck platter, steak frites, and fried chicken dinner are heartier, tasty, and filling. For those who feel the place is pricey, these plates give you more bang for your buck.

Atmosphere:
* Trendy decor
* Low, flattering lighting
* Large TV behind bar is usually on sports, odd but good for the date night guys who'd rather be at home watching the game than at a trendy bar
* Comfortable seating
* Friendly staff
* Upstairs area for those who want a quieter place to sit
* Usually playing good music, but not too loud so you can have actual conversations
* Clean bathrooms (rare on Allen Street).

I went there with my wife for a romantic evening. We ordered the Chef''s tasting a delightful 6 course meal with impeccable service. The waitress new every detail and her descriptions of the meals made you want it more. The flavors were rich and presented in a manner that was like artwork on the plate. Highly recommend this place. We went during the week I am sure on a weekend it is crowded and hard to get into.
