With easy access to the Buffalo Zoo, the Buffalo History Museum, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and Buffalo State College this is a great park. There are soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, basketball courts, lawn bowling, and trails to walk, run, or bike. There is a Hoyt Lake where you can fish, row, and skate (if the ice is deemed safe enough in winter). There is, also, Marcy Casino (not the gambling kind) where you can rent boats and skates. It is available for special occasions - I have been to a wedding there. The park boasts a rose garden and there is the Japanese Peace Garden (with tiny little islands in Mirror Lake) near the History Museum. In one of the wooded areas there is a stone bridge over one of the paths - one often sees people sketching it. There are picnic areas and playgrounds. Each summer two productions are given for "Shakespeare in the Park." There is always something to do or see there. I haven't been there since the Buffalo Orienteering Club had the Cherry Blossom Challenge on May 4th so I don't know if there are any food stands in the park this year.
