In late July, 2013 my wife and I took a launch tour of the Buffalo River. It lasted nearly two hours. The launch was comfortable seating about a dozen persons. What struck me most about the tour was how informative it was. The operator explained the 19th C history of activities on the river tying it to the operation of the Erie Canal during the first half of the century, as well as explaining the river's economic significance to western New York, the development of the broader Great Lakes region, and the nation as a whole. As a Professor of History I was amazed at the quality of the historical information provided and the local, regional, and national contexts within which it was placed. In sum, this launch tour was not only a pleasant diversion on a warm summer day, it was also very informative. My Kudos to the operators of this tour, Rick and Kathy Hilliman. I highly recommend it.
