“Not the best first impression”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We had a change of plans and called 5 days prior to check-in to try to change our reservation. We were staying a week, and tried to cancel just the first night. We were told we could not change the reservation because it was not MORE than 5 days (even though the website says "at least 5 days.") Then, when we arrived, we discovered there is no elevator and no staff on hand to carry up luggage, although a young lady carried up a bag to our room upon request. The room is clean except for some cobwebs and chipped paint, etc. The bathroom has European-style shower with exposed, unfrosted, half-glass door and there is limited counter space. There is no coat rack or closet on the main floor of the suite, and ice is available only on request. I hope our first impressions improve over the course of our stay. Location is nice, and balcony overlooking the water and Pell Bridge is lovely.

Room Tip: Reserve first floor since there is no elevator and no bell staff!

Stayed at the Mill Street Inn for two nights, it was exactly right, we stayed in the studio room, it was a good size and had everything we needed, loved the decor, old brick and rafters but with a contemporary feel. The staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good. The Inn is in a great location just a short walk to the shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: If it is just for two the studio is perfect.

The Mill Street Inn was the perfect place to stay at while visiting Newport for a weekend. The location was great, it's about a 5 minute walk to the water. Their continental breakfast was impressive and the front desk staff was very pleasant. You should definitely book one of their townhouse suites if you can, they are amazing! It's a two floor king suite that has a balcony overlooking the harbor and an electric fireplace. It was a great time and I don't have any negative comments to write!

Room Tip: The Townhouse Suite is amazing, definitely book this room!

My husband and I came for an Anniversary weekend. The Mill St Inn is a beautiful modern boutique hotel two blocks from Thames St. and Bowen's Wharf. The hotel was very nice and the staff were extremely helpful. The rooms are super clean and gorgeous and the better than expected continental breakfast was great!! The hotel has a small parking lot and we did not have to move our car once....we were able to walk everywhere!!! The room suites are so big, I would definitely come back here with my kids. I can not wait to go back...this hotel was perfect in every way!!!

Stayed in Newport for one night. The hotel was only a few blocks away from many restaurants and shops. We had a King Suite on the first floor (#109). The front desk staff was super friendly and the room was very clean. The sitting area was comfortable with a sofabed, a small alcove with a cabinet that hid the minibar fridge, and two armchairs. The bedroom felt a little narrow for a king-size, comfortable bed, but was roomy and quiet otherwise. The bathroom had a very nice rainfall shower with Aveda bath products and really soft towels and robes. In the morning, there was a nice breakfast room which had an adequate simple breakfast - cereals fruit, baked goods, toast, oatmeal, hot beverages, juice and even soymilk.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights, happened to be during the boat show (which was not the reason we were in Newprot, but that's another story...). Check-in went by with no problems, we dropped our luggage in the room (nice on-site parking, close to the action - the docks, dining, etc). We strolled around town and made it back for the afternoon cookies and tea/coffee. We walked to dinner at Lucia (sic?) Italian. Breakfast the next morning was more than expected after reading some posts on TA. Coffee, tea (english breakfast for my wife would have sealed the deal), juice, cereals with plenty of add-ins (nuts/raisins/craisins), crossants (ham & cheese, plain), smoked salmon, tomatoes, bread, bagels... I'm sure I'm missing somethings, but you get the drift. The front desk is always covered, and they are most helpful. Gave us good info on the cliff walk (some of it is still closed due to Sandy last year). You need to drive to the mansions and 10-mile drive, which are both short distances from the Inn...

Room Tip: We had room 101, first door on the left... no problem with any noise. Don't forget to check out...
