Interesting slice of history and it is still functioning as a synagogue. There is a famous letter from George Washington relating to religious freedom and the contribution of this congregation.

My fiancee is very dedicated to her Jewish Heritage and this place allowed her to connect to the past in a very meaningful way. You can feel the history within the Synagogue when you enter (Washington, JFK and Ford sat in the same room you take your tour in) and it is humbling knowing what the building meant to Jews throughout America. The museum in the visitor center is very informative as well, with a library of information to those who want to learn. Highly recommend.

This is the oldest synagogue in the US and there are still 110 families who are members. After 251 years, it is still an active synagogue and the facility is in amazing condition. Well worth the visit.

The history of this synagogue makes it a destination not to be missed. The oldest synagogue in the US which is still actively holding services in its original location makes this an important historical site to tour.

It was very interesting to learn about the migration of Jews to the US and how they came to settle in Newport. The building is wonderfully restored and is still an active congregation.
