Owner description: Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

“Grounds Unbelievable”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

The view was one that could not be believed. The furniture and warmth of the house was hard to look out without gasping.

“The Rosecliff”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

The Rosecliff is a goof value for the money, if you like mansions and want to see how the 1% of the 1800's lived.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

This house has such a beautiful staircase and ball room, my favorite part of the tour. The house is used for events and has been updated so you don't see the original kitchen or anything.

“Worth the time and $”
Reviewed 24 June 2014 via mobile

We bought the 5 mansion tour and we're very glad we chose this one on our tour. I would HIGHLY recommend that if you purchase the 5-pack tour, that you don't try to see all of them in one day. Spread it out so you can enjoy yourself and not get too tired. This tour is an audio tour and that allows you to tour at your own pace. You can stay as long as you want in each room and learn more about specific artwork, etc....The Rosecliff is especially neat because it was featured in popular films, such as the original Great Gatsby.

“Beautiful home and tour in Newport.”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

This is a beautiful home and audio tour was really informative. Beautifully preserved and furnished with a wonderful of the ocean from the ballroom and alot of history about the families who lived there. Several movies have been filmed here, I believe one of the versions of "The Great Gatsby". My family had also visited The Breakers, but really liked Rosecliff better. Many, many beautiful mansions you can tour in Newport. Only wish we had had more time to see some others.
